11 pointsOn No, I misread the title, I thought you wanted to see cats fishin!
-
8 pointsShould have started a poll Terry. I vote cats... but nothing better that the tussel of a nice smallie either but then again nothing better that Cajun or blackened catfish. Oddly enough I live on the intersection of some better catfish rivers in our state but never went until my kid got into it. Keeping the snapping turtles off is our problem. Going sturgeon spearing tomorrow so maybe have some pics of a big dinosaur fish for ya.
-
8 pointsI would much rather fish for catfish. I like bass fishing but not as much. I like to relax and take a nap when I fish.
-
7 pointsWhen I saw @Stormin's picture it made me think of this old advertisement.
-
7 pointsYou aren’t kidding! A total of 15 have followed us home in just the last year and a half!!! The seller just told me that he has “a bunch” of other that he will be looking to sell. We might be looking at a “honey hole” situation here...

6 pointsAccording to my paper work, you have the #5060 limited slip 10 pinion differential. With what you said, it sounds like the issue may be in the differential. Put the rear end on blocks. With the engine not running and in neutral, turn one of the wheels...while turning slowly, both wheels may turn in the same direction...but it is possible that the other wheel will turn in the opposite direction. Notice what happens and also listen for sounds of grinding...maybe have someone else hold the other wheel while you turn one. If you are missing teeth in one of the gears, you may hear it or feel it. If you feel something wrong in there...STOP HALT. You do not want to run this anymore and risk further damage. I think you will have to open the trans anyway at this point. If all seems OK...start up the horse (while still on blocks)...use 1st and/or reverse and try to hold one and then the other wheel while running in gear. Shut off if you feel anything that does not feel right. You are testing the pinions and the axle gears in the differential. Let us know what you find or hear. One other thing, before we get crazy here and you have the horse on blocks...check out your wood ruff keys (on both sides)...it is very possible that this is all that is wrong. I am really thinking that this is what you have wrong...a loose hub and bad wood ruff key. 90% of wheel Horse owners have this problem happen while blading snow...it is the weakest link in these transmissions. Draw a line across the axle and hub with an indulable pencil...do the way above by hand and see if the line is still straight. You have to check both sides. This is most likely what you have going on.

6 pointsJust a few of the loader I have or have had . Small 312-A Med.C195 Large D250 all with a loaders.
-
6 pointsYes it is!! I tip my hat to @PeacemakerJack. He purchased this tractor as a gift for his Dad.
-
6 pointsThat's a common misconception due to bad math. Most don't... but many years ago there were a few of the limited production models that were counted in the old handwritten production ledgers. The 754 was one of them. The true number is 48337 - 47916 +1 = 421+1 = 422 And for those who might question the math, if you start with a serial ----6 and you end with serial ----7 .... you don't end up with a quantity of --1. If you do, you either didn't count ----6 or ----7. Or think about it more simply. Serial number 1 and 2. I have two tractors.... but if I take 2-1 that says I only have 1 tractor. There has to be an addback of +1 for subtracting within the starting and ending range numbers. 48337 - 47916 +1 = 421+1 = 422 I have in the past been lucky enough to have seen the hand written ledgers at Toro and allowed to take some notes. The 754s did begin at 47916 and end at 48337. Production started May 26, 1964 and ended on June 11, 1964. They are one of the very few models that had a straight run of serial numbers. For the majority of production a variety of tractors came down the line in batches making serial numbers jump across models.

-
5 points@Big_Red_Fred I don't know what to do with you and @oldredrider - now I've got two free birthday presents to pick up. I didn't know you guys cared so much!
-
5 pointsI can still hear my dads old 671 GMC truck pulling the lowboy with a D7 cat on the trailer. way back in the late 50's and early 60's, nothing else sounded so good to me.
-
5 pointsHere is one suggestion http://www.millertire.com/products/implement-tires/7-60-15/7-60-15-american-farmer-traction-implement-4-ply/
-
4 pointsThat is so cool you having and us knowing where the last one down the line for the 754’s is located . Especially in its original working clothes . I bet your not for sale price just doubled...... !
-
4 pointsDells you did nothing wrong here and gave this guy to many chances already. Obviously (knowing about elcamino/Wheelhorse) he’s a member or lurker on this forum and maybe happened to come across this thread . Seen what us members thought and decided he’d try to pull one over . you don’t need that tractor but what he done was wrong. Give eBay all your information and let them decide his fate.

4 pointsReally whatever bites but bass are fun. Me and my daughter after a day on my brother in law’s boat. First time fishing in years. Had a great time with my daughter.
-
4 pointsI agree that the woodruff key is a hot prospect. One more realy off the wall idea. mY l-107 acted up once would pull sometimes not others. Turns out the rear tire was flat and had b broken free from the wheel. At some points the wheel would spin and the tire wouldn't....but it worked going straight ahead....
-
4 pointsThis is not a fair vote...I happen to like both. As far as bass...smallies, large mouth, strippers, yellow base, white bass are all fantastic...usually throw large mouth back anymore, and smallies also. catch and release you know. Cat fish is another story. We get a lot of channel cats up here, and they are excellent. Steaked and deep fried with a cornmeal dredge...filayed and lightly dredged in flour and cooked in butter with a little oil...heaven. Smoked Catfish is to die for BTW.
-
4 pointsThanks Jeff I am totally catch and release bass but pan-fish are the best for eating. nothing better in our area. favorite though is walleye shore lunch in Canada I just posted a poll. Figured out how to do it all by myself. Thanks Jim Thanks Jim figured out how to do a poll.

4 pointsI'm just a pure beginner myself. In the region I live here in Cumbria there is little, if any I know of, GT ploughing competitions. The club I'm a member of, Hethersgill Vintage Club, hold a ploughing match every year. Two years ago I got them to run a horticultural class and we would have had another last year but the land we use was too wet. Hoping this March will be better. Some lads came down from Scotland, where they have regular horticultural matches and were really helpful with advice. I plough with an Auto Culto plough off a walk behind, so can't comment on a Brinly. As for setting up a plough, the best I can advise is visit RS's sister forum My Old Machine. The Fife Plooman has given some really good advice on there. Look up my topics. I can't tell you which off hand. Also on there, George and other Scots have posted about matches they have entered. Below I've posted some photo's of my C-121 ploughing tractor. The Black Horse. It has had some mods done. Ie. Rear and front wheels. Electric hitch lift. I'll try and provide more info for you when I've done some searching.

4 pointsEvery system should have a "fuse". The weakest link should be a cheap one. The other thing a failed chain could eat up is the operator
-
4 pointsI think a chain drive would be great for pullers . But with a belt if anything has to give or break I'd rather have a belt go then a chain taking out a trans or engine before it broke.
-
4 pointsDell, don't feel bad about griping. Sounds to me like you have given the seller ample room to uphold his end of the auction. If nothing else, you've given this forum some enlightening information about the scams that exist. Kudos to you. I've been a member on this forum since its inception. Member #216, I believe. In this span of time, I've seen it degenerate into another form of Facebook with the opinions, trash talk and intolerance of some of the members. That is NOT the reason I joined. Opinions regarding the original reason for the creation of this forum (Wheel Horse tractors) are the foundation of its existance. Let's ALL get back on track and maybe we can learn something.

4 pointsWhat about an 854 for $150? Not for mowing, more for pushing snow
-
4 pointsWhat works for me is my 854 3 speed for most work. 854 6 speed for heavier work. Modified raider 12 6 speed with rear hydraulic lift for everything else. My advice is study what you want to do with them and go from there. You will soon find that each one will have a dedicated use so three may not be enough.
-
3 pointsThey shake the ground pretty good when the cruise by too! This one's at Pioneer Power every year.
-
3 points@dells68 Don't hold your breathe waiting on @Big_Red_Fred. to deliver. He has promised me some may deliveries that it would take two tractor trailer units to bring the to my house and I am still waiting
-
3 pointsWe used to catch an occasional catfish while out fishing for crappies in Wisconsin in the '60s. But I didn't start eating catfish until the '80s. One of my employees would pick it up on Fridays from a restaurant on the South Side of Chicago at at 79th and Vincennes. I enjoy it smothered with Hot Sauce! Now I order it anytime I find it on a menu.

3 pointsJust one thing - whatever you do - don't toss that engine, it most likely can be rebuilt or saved and folks are hunting core blocks and other parts - never throw out a Kohler. That cast iron is very rigid compared to modern engines - it's the reason the lasted so long as well as the quality of the parts - and the sheer weight of them. Careful lifting that thing, it can give you a hernia at around 125lbs of iron. Sarge
-
3 pointsThat's the best secret about the shorter framed 8hp tractors built prior to '74 - the heavier drive parts bolt right up and they are also easily converted to the later style attachment system. I'd love to find an 877 and use the later C series rear axle/pump with the piston-to-piston updated pump. Those are bulletproof and reliable, stuff a 12-16hp engine in it and weight it down - ultimate mower/snow/dirt machine with a pretty stout frame since it's shorter. Update the lights and few other things it would awful tough to beat but would have limits due to wheel base, but that's the bonus of it - far better maneuverability . Don't get me wrong, I love the big D's, but even with mods to shorten it's turn radius the thing takes half the property to do a 3 point turn...lol. Honestly though, the little small block Kohler 8hp engine is totally underrated and overlooked. I had a decent 855 and should have kept it - had the nice 7-slot grill that I like too...ugh. Sarge
-
3 pointsSewThe older (original cast iron) Cub Cadet transaxle is the very same one found in the IH Farmall CUB from the late 40s on just shortened axles/housings if it could handle the abuse of actual row cropping many acres with bigger tires and loads why wouldn't it work on a smaller scale sled puller, also another fun fact the CC ORIGINAL actually used a short belt from the crank pulley to the "clutch" that coupled to the drive shaft and our old 8hp Kolher belt did "slip" quite a bit pushing/pulling heavy loads in 2cd or 3rd gear take off about 40 years ago not that I was "hot rodding" it or anything way back when
-
3 pointsMy dad has a 8 4speed that’s had a few changes made over the years. It’s a family favorite. I’d already have that one home if I found it first. They’re just as good as the popular B 80 but are a bit shorter and use smaller wheels. Pops has a 8 pinion 8 speed and larger tires swapped over because the original trans was loud and it already had 8 inch rims when he got it.

3 pointsthank you for posting the sources.....all my friends come to me when looking for parts or what ever they can't find.....i thought i was slipping
-
3 pointsIf a clutch mechanism of some type is not included, What will end up being the weakest link in chain? The engine or the Tranny....
-
3 pointsOh that.... It’s a labor of love alright! We have somewhere around 13 in various stages of reconditioning right now....

2 pointsOk I've finished my 3rd seat and I think this one will go on my lawn ranger. I'm still trying to find the off white 1in heat pleated but I don't think it's going to happen. I might order the 1.5in heat pleated and do a back to see what it looks like. I just hate to order $30.00 worth of material and not be able to use it. I'm rich not stupid. I am improving with each one I make. Next week I'm going to make some 1054 seats. The one I made for mine was more guess work so I'll redo my masters to get it fine tuned. And again it's to white I like the off white much better.

2 pointsIn all honesty if you don't want to rebuild, I would check with Joe's outdoor power first for a good used 12hp kohler and if you can't find one there, post a wanted ad here. Someone will have a good used one to sell you.

2 pointsB.Roid99 In my opinion you do not need big horse power to mow grass. More power more gas. You can always look for a tow behind mower like this has a 97" cutting width. I think as long you do not have many big rocks or large hills to mower around this could work. Or a gas power 60 inches. This gang mower is under $2000. find your self a nice 10hp or an 8hp and you will all set. I mean you do have 7 acres to mow. That is a lot of grass to cut. Just my
