Its December 7th, 76 years ago today the Japanes bombed Pearl Harbor. 2,403 Americans were killed, 1,178 were wounded. There was no state of war when this attack occured. As many of you know, my father was there, serving aboard the U.S.S. PENNSYLVANIA. It it a day I will never forget, and I think many Amercicans should keep the memory alive of those that died and were wounded. So I started my day with a prayer to honor those there. I will never forget. That day, today, will always be honored by me. Glenn

Excerpts from "Reflections on Pearl Harbor" by Admiral Chester Nimitz. Sunday, December 7th, 1941--Admiral Chester Nimitz was attending a concert in Washington D.C. He was paged and told there was a phone call for him. When he answered the phone, it was President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on the phone. He told Admiral Nimitz that he (Nimitz) would now be the Commander of the Pacific Fleet. Admiral Nimitz flew to Hawaii to assume command of the Pacific Fleet. He landed at Pearl Harbor on Christmas Eve, 1941. There was such a spirit of despair, dejection and defeat you would have thought the Japanese had already won the war. On Christmas Day, 1941, Adm. Nimitz was given a boat tour of the destruction wrought on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. Big sunken battleships and navy vessels cluttered the waters everywhere you looked. As the tour boat returned to dock, the young helmsman of the boat asked, "Well Admiral, what do you think after seeing all this destruction?" Admiral Nimitz's reply shocked everyone within the sound of his voice. Admiral Nimitz said, "The Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could ever make, or God was taking care of America. Which do you think it was?" Shocked and surprised, the young helmsman asked, "What do mean by saying the Japanese made the three biggest mistakes an attack force ever made?" Nimitz explained: Mistake number one: The Japanese attacked on Sunday morning. Nine out of every ten crewmen of those ships were ashore on leave. If those same ships had been lured to sea and been sunk--we would have lost 38,000 men instead of 3,800. Mistake number two: When the Japanese saw all those battleships lined in a row, they got so carried away sinking those battleships, they never once bombed our dry docks opposite those ships. If they had destroyed our dry docks, we would have had to tow every one of those ships to America to be repaired. As it is now, the ships are in shallow water and can be raised. One tug can pull them over to the dry docks, and we can have them repaired and at sea by the time we could have towed them to America. And I already have crews ashore anxious to man those ships. Mistake number three; Every drop of fuel in the Pacific theater of war is in top of the ground storage tanks five miles away over that hill. One attack plane could have strafed those tanks and destroyed our fuel supply. That's why I say the Japanese made three of the biggest mistakes an attack force could make, God was taking care of America. Any way you look at it--Admiral Nimitz was able to see a silver lining in a situation and circumstance where everyone else saw only despair and defeatism. President Roosevelt had chosen the right man for the right job. We desperately needed a leader that could see silver linings in the midst of the clouds of dejection, despair and defeat. Our national motto is, IN GOD WE TRUST, he watched over us in 1941 and continues to do so today. CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR OUR COUNTRY!

I've been waiting for this. Finally we got the first snowfall since we've been back home again. My trusty old 'B'-160 was getting impatient sitting in the garage. We got 4-5" off the lake and it was play time.

Here it is... came from fellow forum member Elliot Ness. Many thanks to him for his patience and hanging on to it for four months till I could carve out the time to make it down. As with any old tractor, there are some details to attend to but it seems to run good and strong. Can’t wait to give it a personal once over in the upcoming months...

Like many others on this site I decided Sunday it was time to install the New / Used Cab I bought in spring with the help of my brother. I never had it installed so was not sure what I was in for but it was assembled when I received it. First Picture was install rear frame under seat. It was at this point I went to RedSquare and downloaded the manual and printed it out for reference. Next install front of frame. Had to remove some brackets that mounted to the dash and drill a hole one each side of foot boards to mount the inside brace. That is a forward swept axle and tires you see sitting in the shed. Next spring project to mount that on the old C-160. Also I will change the way the lights are mounted on the hardtop. And finally the finished product. I was surprised at how well it fit and how easy it was to install. Let it Snow, Let it snow , Let it snow!

One of the great experiences of my life was taking part in the 74th memorial service held on the dock right across from where the Mighty Mo’ is docked and where the Arizona rests. My cousin a Naval SOCOM operator was stationed there and we were able to visit him. He got us into the memorial service. Three rows in front of me was one of the survivors of the Arizona. There was a patriotic spirit about him that I will never forget as long as I live. I can’t even begin to comprehend the images going through his mind as he stood at that fateful spot 74 years after going through a living hell where so many of his fellow seaman lost their lives. I tell you what, at 90 plus years old, HE DIDNT HAVE A PROBLEM STANDING WHEN HIS NATIONAL ANTHEM WAS PLAYED! Pardon me while I wipe the tears from my eyes because I never want to erase that image from my minds eye. Ironically, if you told him he is a hero, he would be quick to deny it, point to the Arizona and say that there lies the real hero’s! Our servicemen are all hero’s to me-alive or decessed. Thank you for your service and let us never forget this hallowed day!

I can spot a diesel mechanic anywhere - you , sir fit the bill to a tee... I know how BRF got his demeanor - it's from dealing with truck drivers all day , been there , done that . Got tired of throwing tools at fools so I left that profession for the most part but I still get peppered with questions from friends that are drivers , and they wonder why I have a bad temper.. God bless all those who died on that tragic day. Today is my daughter's birthday but I would remember Pearl Harbor anyway. I grew up hearing about it all the time. My uncle died in WW 2 as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Madison is in the rear view mirror! Traffic was steady but nothing like it will be in 30-40 minutes At the stop my traveling buddy woke up and said the famous line, “Are we there yet?” “No son, ONLY 360 miles to go though!” Next stop—Dubuque

Wasn’t real impressed with Henry’s fuel consumption on the way down—13.88mpg! I’ve gotten that in the warmer temps pulling 9000# of payload but I’m sure it could be worse. I do like traveling in this vehicle though—very comfortable! Just a few more miles and I’ll be out of Missouri SP jurisdiction, then they’ll have to turn this rustler over to the US Marshall service!

I wish that I would’ve had more time to visit with him but I had to start making the 460 mile run for home. I did get to see his nice hot rod collection out back with a couple of trucks and cars but a ‘69 Chevelle that was super sweet! He said that he has been collecting horses for about 40 years and had over 100 at one point but he is now getting out of it so he can focus on the cars and trucks in his remaining years. I’m thankful that he was willing to part with the super C! I thought this was a cool pic. Other than the $85 that I was losing out of my wallet! two American legends being trailered home!

I've had some luck using a steel shank Phillips head screw driver. Set it squarely into the screw and give it a good whack with a heavy hammer. The shock will usually release it.

Yes Craig, I did. I don't see it wearing off as long as I can physically handle it. We have some system snow coming overnight Friday then another 6+/- of lake stuff Saturday. Once we start getting real accumulations my problem will be where to push it with the terrain we have. I'll probably have to get the blower out but pushing it is so much fun. We usually got a taste of the driving every year during visits up here. It scares me more mingling with some Florida drivers when it rains down there.

there are only a handful of GT’s that I would travel 900+ miles in one day to bring home. A nice C195 is obviously one of them. I’ve bought a variety of stuff from Madtown over the years and you are right lots of unique stuff shows up there for sale... Just passed Monticello...there was an awesome plow day nearby that I attended in 2013 and 2015. Claudia plowed for the first time there on GhostRider in his “old clothes”... my little sweetheart! I do anything for that little girl (Dont tell her!!!) The field was literally a quarter mile long. She rode side saddle so I could sit on the other fender to lift the plow and work the clutch. I’m officially half way now! 232 miles to go
