We made it to the show in spite of the rain and traffic. It was cool to have three generations attend... Mark my words, this show is going to become one of the best shows in the United States in the near future. It has grown immensely since our first time attending about 6 years ago. It draws in the rarest of the rare like this one of one 1969 Trans Am (the only one ordered with a red interior)... How about the very first Boss 429 Mustang to roll off the production line... With documentation... There was legendary race cars there in abundance like these titans of the drag strip... What about the third Corvette ever produced as a cutaway car to show the internal design of what would become “America’s sports car” There were about two dozen cars for sale in the corral like this “Eleanor” tribute for $42K. this 1977 Dodge van was like a time capsule of the club vans from the late 70’s and early 80’s Lots and lots of magazine article feature cars were there like this completely restored 1969 COPO Camaro. One of of the things I really like about the show is the variety of cars. All popular and many obscure American brands are represented. It is certainly worth checking out if you like old cars!

A man's man for sure...I have a few hardbacks, but the vast majority of mine are paperbacks....read many times and both of my sons have read them all, probably more than once...I really like westerns but the other writers just don't cut it....have a few by william johnstone that are good, but ....as far as western movies, I put "lonesome dove" at the top..glad to hear from you...

I have never seen the load capacity ratings you are looking for, but by measuring the cross sectional area of the weakest points and multiplying the area times 60,000PSI (tensile strength of mild steel), you can calculate the capacity of the brackets. Keep in mind this is where it will break. For a working load limit, use a safety factor of five. The mounting bolts may be the weak link.

Had the 312H out with the lawn sweeper for some yard clean up after work this past week. Now to get some tractors ready for Old Man Winter. Like the 1054 pictured last winter.

I often times use a ratchet strap around the center of the tire to squeeze it so the bead is closer to the rim.

First over in the manual section is the wiring diagram for your tractor download it, it will make it easier to run your tests, I am assuming yours is the 1988 with the Kohler Magnum engine and these tests will only check this engine there are 2 wires that complete the circuit to shut down the engine. on your ignition switch the post marked M will go to the motor and the post marked G is the your ground either wire can be causing the issue or the ignition switch grab your multi meter and you will need to OHM check the wires all tests are with the key on the OFF position to make testing of easier and prevent any short circuiting I would remove the battery and then remove the ignition switch from the dash and leave it plugged in the wiring harness clean all connections first and coat with dielectic grease to check the M wire you will need to remove the engine shroud to access the magneto grounding wire from the M postion on the igintion switch place one lead on the mag end and the other on M pole with the wire attached should be 0 OHMs to test the ground wire attach one to the negative lead to the battery and the other on the G pole should read 0 OHMs if both test good, to test the switch place one lead on the magneto lead and the other to the negative battery lead should be 0 OHMs one these three tests will determine which one is your issue good luck!

I have known Dave since 2009. Great guy. He has been a regular vendor at the Wheel Horse show since I have known him. I have seen much of the inventory of which he speaks, and for anyone so inclined, a road trip to Gardners, PA. would be time well spent.

I’ve been a fan of Louis L’Amour since I was first learning to read. I grew up watching westerns even though I was born about a generation after that genre was really popular. My dad was the one who watched every episode of Gunsmoke and Bonanza as it came out on the old tube TV. However, I often remember him saying that many these new movies are junk compared to the old westerns. There was character, honesty, work ethic, and diligence touted as things that a person strove to attain. So, having films by John Wayne, Roy Rogers, etc in front of me, it’s no wonder that I found myself engrossed in the L’Amour books. I have a fairly small collection, maybe 25-30 of his books but readying this has encouraged me to get more. It is too hard for me to pick a favorite but I have been partial to the Sackett Brand because of it tying together so many of the popular Sacketts who are found in other books. I guess it is about time to introduce my 13 and 11 year olds to Mr. L’Amour... that way they can really understand why I use the Sackett name for my alias!

The need to be choked is a fuel starvation issue. Use come Seafoam in a tank full of fresh non-ethanol gas and it probably will clear up.

Got a little more done today. Emory and I sanded his front rims, I primed the wheels, and sealed the seat pan and hood. I also sprayed a test of the color combo - metallic black and Rustoleum red speck metallic. After clear (bottom of the picture), they'll look great. Ignore the reflection, that's the lamp I took the picture under.

New to this forum but old hand at WH tractors. I own a 520H and a C160 Automatic. Both get used frequently. The 520 is my primary snow remover. It is equipped with a 2 stage front mount snow blower. The C160 Auto is the garden machine with a rear mounted tiller on that one. I worked for an old established Wheel Horse dealer 30+ years ago. Spent a couple years there and became well versed in everything WH built from 1950s to current tractors of 1987. The biggest seller then was the 312-8 speed with a 42" side discharge deck. Those folks usually came back and bought a front plow, chains and wheel weights.

I was looking for a 16 hp motor for snowblowing this winter. Went to get the motor and asked him if he had the tractor it came off of. He said he did. He was going to scrap it but would throw it it if I wanted it. Looks to be in pretty good shape. I'd radther have one like this than one painted three times lol. I'm going to use it like this for the winter just get everything mechanically right.

This is not a total restore. Just painted the sheet metal. Turned out pretty good so far. Thanks to Terry for the decals. Lowell for the headlight bezels. New steering wheel center from Glenn. Got new front tires from ebay. Getting some 24-12x12 mounted today for the read. Last picture is what it looked like when I got it

That's because the ether now SUCKS compared to the old stuff. The strap does help as KC9KAS wrote. Also try getting the bottom (stem side top) bead seated by hand as much as possible so you can pull up on the tire to get the top bead to touch around the rim. Less area for air to escape while trying to fill it. Dish soap with a little water helps Doesn't hurt if the tire is warmed up and more pliable than it is when cold I have used a cut piece of air hose with a hose clamp holding it directly on the stem. Fold the air hose until the compressor tank fills and let go when you ready. Using an air chuck is too slow of an air flow most of the time. Lots of cuss words! Brand new tires are the toughest to get on.

That was the best part of the day, spending time with my dad and my son. The cars are cool but the loved ones are the best! The Barn Finds is a growing segment of the Muscle Car community. This Judge was in great condition for being stored in a barn for years... what made it especially unique was that it is equipped with a bench seat. That is unusual in a GTO but really rare in a Judge. one of the other things I enjoy in both Garden Tractors and old cars is the back stories. This 1967 Buick GS 340 was sold brand new by the current owners dad. The current owner was able to buy it from the original owner about 15 years ago and just finished a rotisserie resto on it. It is a connection with his dad and the successful dealership he ran for years. Cool

The original muffler which.was used for the test runs was unsuitable for scale appearance and was also in the wrong position. A 180 degree bend to fit within the side panels was needed. I tried a length of flexi pipe I had but this wouldn't bend into a tight enough radius. A piece of 15mm copper pipe was bent up using an ancient and crude pipe bender ( found at friend John's place ) where else, which gave the required result. The exhaust stub on the engine is approx 22mm outside diameter although the bore is a lot smaller. An adapter was turned up to suit. During the clear out at John's various stainless steel mufflers were found which John had made at work. This one was removed from a mower and cleaned up. This was connected to the copper pipe via an old 90 degree plumbing elbow after cleaning off all the muck. After finding a length of chrome plated water plumbing pipe a posher version was bent up. No prizes for guessing where these two items came from. Not sure how this pipe and the plating will stand up to the exhaust heat, but not the end of the world if it doesn't. An extension was made for the muffler again from copper pipe, as I didn't have anything else of a suitable diameter. This was drilled and the lower end plugged as per the full size. An adapter ring was turned up, drilled and tapped to hold everything together. This ring also located the assembly into the grill surround. The completed parts and after fitting. Still need to make some adjustments.

I cannot figure out how anyone could abandon such an expensive machine - someone paid dearly for that tractor new and that particular model is a serious favorite among it's owners . Stupid levels of torque , very tough frame/transmissions and quite easy to work on them - why throw it away like that ? I have two , a '73 16Auto and a '74 C-160 - you'd have to pry them out of my cold , dead fingers and probably have the wife after you as well - they have done more work for us over the years than almost anything I've ever owned besides the 1277 - which is almost even better in some ways . The amount of dirt/rock/snow work they have done was probably far above their intended design , but they never really complain and I take great care of them with a lot of respect - which is highly deserved . Folks around this area know these quite well and their reputation - they have proven to be far more reliable and rugged above any other brand anyone has around here - and that includes both Deere and Cub models . I guess our disposable society is catching up to too much valuable iron - need to keep an eye open in those scrap yards folks . I have a phone number listed with the yard guys at all our local spots - they call if anything comes in and they will save stuff for me off to the side of the working pile . Son in law got his very straight , running and working 1057 out of a scrap yard near me - he spotted it taking a load in on a guy's trailer and a few minutes later I had a call from the yard guy about it - said one got away from him before it hit the scale...I was relieved to see it came home later that day and he brought it over to show it off . Two weeks later , another load and a near-new 48" deck was scored from the same yard , even had all the guards and decals still on it - dumb . Great save , always glad to hear how folks are keeping these machines alive - they certainly deserve the attention and love . Sarge

We were kind of amused by this... So for the record... we DO normally keep this machine covered with a tarp. And it's done this 1/2 choke thing for the year that we've had it but it's getting worse.... Then we had the incredibly nasty storm a couple weeks ago... wind and rain... and rain and wind... We tried to start it yesterday and ..... nothing.... dam. So I popped the plug out and noted no gas smell. I Watched my honey put gas in so I Know there's some sort of fuel somewhere in this machine. I pulled the fuel line off the carb end and drained the tank completely. Of the 1-1/2 quarts it let go, about a 1/4 of it was water!!! well there's a problem. So anyways... I'll pick up a few carb gaskets and freshen 'er up a bit and toss a little water eater of some sort in with the fuel.

@PeacemakerJack I was introduced to Lamour back about 35 or so years ago when I got the 2 leatherbound books from a sort-of 3rd set of grandparents we were lucky enough to have as kids. Silver canyon and Flint. Still two of my favorites from him. I genuinely appreciate the fact that if Lamour wrote it, he likely lived it, even if for a very short time. He did many many jobs to keep food in his and his families mouths.... but also - He tried doing many things just to see what they were like. Didn't take the word from others, he went and Did what whatever it was... If he wrote that was a particular landmark such as a farm or building or rock or canyon... It was really there at the the time of the story or close to it. (His personal library had over 10,000 maps of ancient to modern times) Westerns paid his bills... so he wrote mostly westerns. But I enjoy the others as well. Crime stories, science fiction etc... A great writer and a great man who wrote what he lived and lived what he wrote.

Lurked around here for about two years before joining. Lots of guys have names with horse reference. With appx. 15,000 members I didn't want to choose one that was already taken. Figured not much chance anyone else calling themselves horse $hit, sooo... And besides, I've said before, if it gives someone a chuckle, .. Mission accomplished....

Had the same problem on the same tractor a couple of weeks back. The ground post on the ignition switch had a bad connection. A dab of solder fixed it. It's the single post on the switch, not one of the 5 posts in the connector.

She runs not even a puff of smoke on first start up I'm impressed! I gotta get busy if I'm gonna put the snowblower on it ! It got saved from the junk. Good original engine and it's gonna be back to work again for this horse!! Should I start a new topic called resurrection?

When I worked at a tire shop we would put a tube in the tires and air it up to stretch the tire back out. We also had a bead blaster that would shoot a large shot of air into the tire at once.

Another quick fix to get on the road quickly is just use the choke to stop the engine. Sure sounds like a ground to the switch. Jumping a wire from a good ground to the metal body of the switch while it's running with the key in the off position. It should shut down if it's just the ground to the switch.

My Quik-Way sub frame was made to use the front and center attachment points and the rear of it was to straddle the axle housings. Mine is modified to clip in the rear attachment that is used for snow plow and tiller usage. I have worked it hard for twenty some years with no failures.

Welcome to !!! You have come to the best Wheel Horse site on the net, bar none, IMO. Your close proximity to the Big Show should work in your favor, I would think, to help you liquidate a portion of your existing inventory. Maybe a significant portion of what you have. By my Mapquest search, you are only 10min/6.6mi from Gardners to Bilgerville, so it would appear you are very strategically placed to take advantage of the highest concentration of Wheel Horse fanatics and activities anywhere in the world! Seriously! In real estate you always hear the three most important rules are, "Location, Location, Location". Other than being at the Fairgrounds itself, I can't imagine a much better location to be in for an ex-dealer to unload their "wares". In addition, I would encourage you to aggressively use the Classified section here to list items which you know have higher value, desirability, and also very rare items which are in demand by owners of particular models. You also might consider applying for "VENDER" status here to be listed as a permanent seller of Wheel Horse equipment. You can make it known that the membership can contact you for any parts which you might have, as well as whole or partial tractors you wish to dispose of. I would encourage you to be very proactive here at Red Square. I think it will provide you with reasonable dividends. I am going to be following you and actively watch for what you do here. Other forum member should as well. Good luck WHP! https://www.mapquest.com/directions/from/us/pa/gardners/to/us/pa/biglerville?optimized=1
