You couldn't ask for better weather and the variety of equipment was outstanding. Member @turnnleft was there with his grandson and a lot of outstanding RJs. This poor horse has been abused! Here are a few more photos of the show. Don't know what this is but it was Not For Sale, owner had picked it up a few weeks ago and hoped to find out more information fro people at the show. Here is a Standard Twin walk behind tractor that has been converted to a rider. Very interesting! I have one in my barn and have plans to do something similar with it. Massey was the feature tractor this year. This gentleman had a great Deere toy collection

When Mike wrote the book on Wheel Horses he left out a couple of experimental models including the "Bugatti" inspired Type 35.

Dismount tire. Throw chains inside said tire and remount. What's the problem? Oh and hi HHHHOOOOWWWWWAAAAARRRRDDDDD!

I just gotta ask Bob. How did you get those chains inside the tires? I just can't help myself.

In my opinion the cast iron Kohler single cylinder engines are rather bullet proof. If it sounds good and isn't smoking excessively you will get another 1,000 hours out of it with proper maintenance.

THE STACK

I bought this sickle bar a couple weeks ago and figured out the bottom drive pulley was backwards so I tried heating it up and it still wouldn’t come off. And yes I took both of the set screws off. And we put a puller on it and bent the pulley all up. So we found a pulley that is the same thing and put it on the right way and it works good. I just need to get a bigger belt and lube it all up. It’s a 50” too. I can’t wait to use it a lot. Any tips on running it or anything else.

One from the day I brought it home and another after I removed the mower deck (I know, it has a replacement engine but it runs like a champ). Toro acquired both Wheel Horse and Lawn-Boy, hoping to keep those high-end brands alive. They covered market segments where Toro wasn't as strong; Toro didn't have any garden tractor presence, and Wheel Horse also brought a line of smaller but well-engineered lawn tractors and alternate rear-engine riders to their lineup. Lawn-Boy was kind of its own special segment with two-cycle push mowers and a strong brand loyalty that extended into the commercial sector. (I usually saw more commercial Lawn-Boy mowers than Toro trimmer mowers in commercial service back in the day.) Toro supported the engineering efforts to carry the Wheel Horse line into the 300, 400, and 500 lines plus develop the 5xi, and they were the ones that brought Lawn-Boy into the modern age with the oil-injected/piston-ported "M" series 2-cycle mowers. They were very much trying to grow and build those brands. Unfortunately, economic downturns that favored the rise of cheap commodity equipment, a decline in popularity of gardening on a scale big enough to induce people to need GTs, engine emission regulations, plus the rise of zero-turns across pro and homeowner use, all really turned the market upside-down. Today, SCUTs have eaten into the garden tractor market and cheap commodity lawn "tractors"/riding mowers have gobbled up the homeowner market. Zero-turns dominate the turf care industry. Emissions regulations killed 2-cycle mowers. In the end, Toro's two big acquisitions went from being important assets to a mostly dead market. Toro actually protected the Wheel Horse brand by not applying it to anything that didn't have a genuine Wheel Horse engineering legacy. Unfortunately, there's no way to fit genuine Wheel Horse into Toro's modern lineup. So the brand remains dormant. Lawn-Boy still has name recognition, and just survives as re-branded Toro homeowner mowers. The "M" series deck lives on though, in slightly modified/updated form as one of Toro's (expensive) pro line trimmer mowers. Toro spent money and had plans to cultivate those brands and build themselves into a "family" of reputable names. Economics and outside market forces changed all that.

I have about 200 foot of frontage on a state road, Same problem with trash.........and it really ticks me. Once I was picking up the trash and came upon a case of long neck buds. About half were broke, I washed the rest off, chilled them and enjoyed. My wife said that was the only time I was happy about picking up the trash!

Looks like a K341, count the head bolts looks like 10. As Dick said these motors are bullet proof, you will not be able to do a compression test you need to do a leakdown test as Kohlers have ACR

I saw this thing sitting by the metal scrap pile at the county dump today and I could not leave it there. I haven't looked to see if there's any brand names on it, but it's red! Unreal that someone would scrap this thing.

So after posting the topic, I hadn't used the 414-8. Since I am getting ready for snow (while it's warm out for a change) today's task is the plow on the 414-8. When I parked it on Sunday, I shut off the fuel petcock. This morning I went out, opened the petcock and it fired up like it sat for only a minute. I like the idea of the electric fuel pump, but think that I will buy a bunch of one-way valves and put them on all the machines. So the next question is where is the best place to install? Closer to the tank (lowest spot), just before the fuel pump or between pump and carb?

I like it, just like me it doesn't conform to most standard rules and regulations.

You know what, I kind of like the way it looks.

I filled my rear tires on my C160 with RV antifreeze and chains . Never spins works great. Chains are a must.

And I also add roller chains wrapped around the front tires for steering control when pushing a blade full of wet heavy snow.

For financial reasons and Cecil's son not being interested it was sold to AMC in 1974. It was really just big business from then on. In 1982 it was sold to Munn Investment Group. Finally in 1986 Toro acquired Wheel Horse. Personally, since the Ponds no longer owned Wheel Horse I feel that Toro was the best move that could have happened. I doubt they would have been around until 2007 or the design completely changed (severely cheapened) if they hadn't. There's a nice blurb about it in a book written by the CEO of Toro.

Yes, it made a difference but I think a couple things kept it from working better. I have a Command engine and the fuel pump is on the back of the engine. On level ground the pump is at a height basically like it's sitting on top of the tank. When I backed it up the ramps it barely put the tank higher than the pump. Add to the fact that the tank wasn't full and I believe that gravity helped but didn't totally solve the issue. I have a couple of the electric pumps and have been pondering them. Just yesterday I installed a check valve (the metal style) in the line so we'll see what that does.

No sir, all the snow throwers for the classics will fit on the 520 with swept forward axle because they sit far forward and stay straight, (as that is the only reason you need the frame extension on the snow plow frame because when you angle it it hits the tires), Jeff.

Your bevel (pinion) gear is jumping over the tooth in the fan gear. These can be shimmed & the steering gear maybe moved down (if it has moved up over a period of time) or if it hasn't been serviced (greased) properly the bracket may be worn badly. Also the fan gear could have a chipped tooth (or worn). They can sometimes be beyond repair & need replacement. Only you can make that determination.

FWIW, I mount mine on the frame in front of the hood stand. Lower than the tank and tucked out of the way. Also gives room to install a filter and convenient for servicing, if needed. Central to wiring as well.

Little more on the muffler today. Made the cutout for the front outlet pipe and a rear brace to the engine. Also fitted the 418 exhaust guard. Still have to make a mounting bracket for it. Going to weld that to the brace that runs the right side under the hood and try to incorporate the coil and solenoid mount so they are up and out of the way.

When I think of all that energy expelled chopping wood, it reminds me to go clean the spiders out of my garage heater's pilot burner. The little devils love propane!

Well, there will not be any measurable snow in Southeast New York this season. That's for sure. I need to put the winter attachments on my horses...then it will all fall in Cleveland and Buffalo.

After I bought my new Dodge Ram 2500 diesel I thought I would go check out some truck forums to try and learn a thing or three about them. Every site I checked out had some knowledgeable folks & good contributors but man do the other forums suck out there compared to here! Ads, ads and more ads not to mention looooonnnnng running scripts & lousy topic layouts. Most very slow and complicated to navigate and figure out. Terrible to register and login, Not at all like the ease & ad free we have here or our sister site MOM. Maybe I am just used to being here. Keep up the good work Karl!
