After I bought my new Dodge Ram 2500 diesel I thought I would go check out some truck forums to try and learn a thing or three about them. Every site I checked out had some knowledgeable folks & good contributors but man do the other forums suck out there compared to here! Ads, ads and more ads not to mention looooonnnnng running scripts & lousy topic layouts. Most very slow and complicated to navigate and figure out. Terrible to register and login, Not at all like the ease & ad free we have here or our sister site MOM. Maybe I am just used to being here. Keep up the good work Karl!

Super easy to load pictures ,if you are a supporter No one is mean to you if you do not have the knowledge that they do I could go on, but that covers the important stuff. And also, we have Big Red Fred [I told you we already covered the important stuff ]

Dear Lord, Jim DeLong has a medical condition that needs your divine intercession. Please guide the surgeon's hands to be steady and effective to do the task at hand, and not create any further damage We pray against any infection or complications. Calm the heart of his family. Give Jim your peace so his body can heal under the best conditions. In the name of Jesus, bless Jim to be healthier after this procedure than before. Lord allow this temporary trial to bring this family closer to you and each other. When he is coming out of surgery, let the side effects be minimal. Work a miracle in this whole situation and bless it from beginning to end. Thank you Lord for your blessing on this family. We praise you as we know we are in good hands- the very hands of God. In Jesus name, we thank you for each day. Amen.

Yes we do have it made here at RedSquare. I belong to several online forums, and this is by far the easiest to navigate and has the best membership of all of them. This feels like one big family that I feel deeply honored to be a part of. Huge shout out to Karl and the entire team of moderators for making RedSquare the wonderful place it is. Keep up the good work guys

Bought this C120 for $500 from a old guy didn't realize it when i bought it and its not the sellers fault he never put it on but somebody made new mounting brackets for the snowplow.. ok so thats not so bad but they cut the frame to short so I can't turn the plow it can only be straight. I will eventually either buy another plow or weld it a bunch lol. The deck is in pretty good shape it has a few rust holes not bad someone must have repainted it but I can't figure it out as it has all the decals all in good shape. The guy said that the belt was bad but i took the cover off and it was just the tenisoner spring broke bought a new one from tractor supply for $4. The motor sounds good but it is having a few issues it doesn't always run smooth and it sputters sometimes but at high throttle it runs fine. I will get into that soon when I have a little time. Overall I am happy with it just a little bummed out about the plow. Right now I just have some chains hooked up to it so I can raise it up, to at least get me through this winter.

1000 bucks to put 9 trees on the ground is super cheap...you got a great deal...but most of the expense is in the cleanup...thats the hard part...putting them on the ground is easy with the right equipment I used to think the same thing...but once you've been up in the bucket a couple times it's not bad at all...i used to love the feeling of being 40-50 feet up with my chainsaw in hand...now them guys that's climb...thats another story...ive got all the climbing gear...but there isn't a customer within 250 miles of me got enough money to get me to put it on LOL. Here's a couple shots of the view from up in my bucket. Sure gonna miss that old truck when it goes to it's its new home next week

As long as we got back into this 3rd/2nd gear thingy again. I think we should mention "5003 and 5010 Service Notes" paragraph #3 for everybody that would order or buy the 3523 gear. Transmissions before Serial # 11628...the spline shaft and the 2 fork gears have 10 involute splines. On transmissions after Serial # 11628 the spline shaft and 2 fork gears have 11 involute splines. It should be noted that these parts have the same part number...ie...3rd/2nd gear in both styles is part # 3523 and so on. If you count the teeth on Lane's, RacinBob's and Lowells gears...they are all the 11 tooth style. Make sure you count the teeth in your gears. Lane does have some of the 10 tooth style, if he would like to add some pictures.

Can hardly describe how proud I am of him. First kid to play college sports on either side of my fam forever. Started on the O line and won a 6A championship at Carmel last year. Zero thug and zero tats although thats where he was headed with the non-parent mother of his before I won sole custody of both kids.....and she paid me for the privilege. If you are a Dad please fight your ass off. It cost me 30K but I won big league. He just changed the oil in his car and didnt push back too much when I told him to vacuum out his car cause it was a mess. I dadded out and detailed the rims on his car.....I hate brake dust. He had a 3.7 GPA at graduation. Well see when I get mid term grades from college but I'm not worried. He is fascinated by my 50 YO Wheel Horse tractors. Gawd he is awesome.

I agree with all the above. Also though I haven't met any of you lads on the other side of the pond, I feel I've made some new friends.

Well said Jim. There are all sorts of worthless sites on the internet. We are blessed with conscientious Moderators who keep us straight and Karl has done a great job of building and maintaining the site for us. All of us benefit from the combined wisdom and humor of this group; wonderful.

Notice your drive belts have raw rubber sides which seldom quit driving when the tension is released. All our belts are fabric covered to help them slip in a no-tension situation except for the starter/generator belts that use raw rubber for better traction. The other exception is a belt that bends backwards over a flat idler pulley requires special construction to get a reasonable life expectancy. Garry

I can report that Marsha has a very nice one owner 312-8 50th Anniversary Edition tractor. Her late husband was a mechanic on diesel trucks and took great care of this one owner tractor.

**** Steve mentioned some mof the splined gears for the shifters are 11 teeth and some are 10. I have three sets. two are 11 tooth and one is 10. The Input /drive shaft gear will ride smoothly in the third/second gear for either the 11 or the 10 tooth spline gear set. Not the greatest pics here but just did fast a few minutes ago. In first photo the one on right has 11 teeth and the and one on the left has ten. Both of the lower imput/drive shaft gears will interchange!

Although I don't know you personally, I do feel I know you through this form.We serve a great GOD and through Jesus we can ask for his help in times like these. 953 Nut said it very well, that all things are possible through our savior Jesus Christ. Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary,They shall walk and not faint, Isaiah 40:31. Sounds like a lot of putting together, measure, take apart, shim, put together, measure, take apart, reshim, put together...stop me at any time here! Might be worth it tho!
  22. 3 points
That's exactly what I did on my 5010. I had about 1/10" in/out play in 3rd. I could actually feel the shifter push the rails sorta past the balls until the 3523 was fully engaged with the input gear. I would let go and it would pull back in place which separated the two gears a bit. I purchased a variety pack of shims from Grainger and experimented until I liked the feel when the detent balls latched it into gear. Zero play is your friend.

Holes are there for it Bob... no matter ... but someone at some time has loved that tractor, very clean looking! Sounds like you did good on the price too! Any chance that could be a plow for a short frame fellas? I know nothing about the different plows made through the years. Carb may need cleaning/adjusting or seafoam as Dick suggested. LOL I think he drains his oil INTO the pan like yer supposed to Pete! My pan has runneth over

Pretty clean looking C-120.Also.........how do you keep your garage floor so damn clean?Have fun with your new toy.
  25. 3 points
I see your situation, guess the best thing to do is remove the belt and cover everything with plastic bags while draining then go with the drain pipe. Don't guess I will ever live that down.

Download the Kohler Service manual here. There are two measurements for the float.

Even makes my teeth hurt Bob! The older worn but good ones are steps away from slipping ! The years take their toll on my teeth as well! I guess there is good reason for machinists and dentists!
  28. 3 points
It doesn't take much gear grinding to round over those 3rd gears. Every tractor missing a belt guard is suspect to this.

Motorcycle tachs were driven by the transmission. Again, gear reduction.

@UncleJerm76 Have you tried a "YouTube" search for a Kohler with mechanical RPM gauge?

Not pricy (in my opinion) ,all 9 trees were an even $1000. He was a legit company with full insurance. All I asked for was to get em in the ground, I’ll clean up all the brush and cut the wood into wood stove length. These suckers were tall!! The tallest according to him was about 85’. He used the bucket for the whole job so all the heavy trunks are no longer than 6’. Still a lot of work ahead of me of course.

The hydraulic hoses I had made fit pretty good. I figured I had better install them before I installed the battery and that also gives them a chance to form before I put pressure on them. I left the tank open to let the sealer cure a few more days.

Ya know Norm you could have saved me the look up.... http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=SWMBO hilarious Had the same thing happen to my horse barn this year..... same part of roof and everything. Even neighbor's dead oak tree that I been about for years. Insurance paid quite well tho & all I had to buy was some eave and rake trim. Actually made out like a bandit Interesting roof material ya got there tho, looks to be a 5 or 6/12 pitch too!

I've ran the C-160 against a single stage snow blower - that Kohler loves to kill chains/sprockets/idlers/belts if you push the blower too hard into a snow bank or frozen material , the engine just doesn't stop pulling at full torque nor does it care what it breaks . Operator stupidity for sure , but I was having carb issues and finally got it to run right when the governor opened the throttle fully - the blower took the wrath of the engine in a bad way . I've never had one instance where I could load that engine beyond it's pulling range without damaging whatever accessory was on it - which is why I love that K-341 so much and the overall simplicity of the C-series . Sort of reminds me of the short wheel base big block cars of the past - forget using the wheel to steer it , the throttle worked better anyway ... Sarge

Good point Bob as I woulda never thought of that. Could a guy shim the input shaft during a rebuild to take care of that? Your welcome, the 3523 gear conundrum is brought up here a lot. For more info put 3523 in the search block and you will find a few threads.

Interesting. That's a 76 or 77 based on the steering tower, solid mount engine and no hood ornament but the hood decal looks to be what they used starting in 78 but shortened probably to eliminate the model designation which was on that decal at the time. Outstanding looking machine. In addition to what Richard suggested check the points.

No belt guard = grinding gears unless some other method is used to stop the drive belt. Also, ignore the blurb in the older owners manual that states "depress the brake/clutch half way when shifting while in motion". Always come to a complete stop. Another thing is input shaft play. With the transmission in 3rd gear if there's any in/out play of the input shaft that equates to the input gear disengaging from the inner teeth of the 3523 gear that same amount.

That is a fine looking unit, obviously well cared for and ready for a few more decades of service. If you add some Seafoam to the gas it will probably help. Also, only use non-ethanol gas, the ethanol does nasty things to the fuel system.

I agree, float too low, but also check clogged screen in fuel tank shutoff valve, dirty inline gas filter or weak fuel pump. One last thing, maybe some old, crappy fuel???

Been ther seen that Lane ..you do know Lowell @wheelhorseman has them new? Unless you want to open it again?
  48. 2 points
What he said. Clean your pulleys and put the guard on. .... problem solved? Many tractors... guard = belt guide.
  49. 2 points
Oh, on the carburetor, probably float too low.
