Posted about seeing this last summer, finally got it. For free in fact. Definitely needs some work. Steering isn't working, wires are broken, tires are probably shot, hydraulics leak, and it's rusty. It came with a custom blade and a mower deck (not pictured). Still deciding whether I'm going to try and fix it or the 1973 12 Auto. Or both of them.

So being unhappy all of these years with replacement mufflers for the Electro and not wanting a tall stack I finally decided to adapt the Jay Bee muffler to it. A little improvised plumbing and although unusual and probably not for everyone, after using it for a while I am really happy with it. Incredibly I now can hear just engine noise from front even realizing that my PTO has a ringing noise which I never noticed before. From tailpipe, just a nice burbling exhaust note right under tractor.

I just got back from a road trip and picked up a GT-14. I'm thinking of adding a 3-point and possibly an FEL down the road. When I got back I thought to myself I was on this forum for a couple years and it's about time I become a supporter so I did it! I feel it is a small price to pay for the wealth of information available here and as a bonus I can now post lots of big pictures! Okay here are the enjoy!

I got this 753 Thursday but I didn't know the model yet but I got the model now. It does not have the original engine in it but it has a replacement tucumsiah engine. The horse is in good condition and shifts through all the gears, I have not gotten to start it yet because still cleaning carb and putting on new fuel line. It is supposed to run but I'm not sure yet just hoping. Here ere some more pictures,

My kind neighbor lent me his lawn roller. This weather is finally beginning to break. 65 degrees!

Alright , we all know anytime we get new tires it's worthy of a picture ( whether it's tractor related or not ) . Got these Talon's today for the E-Maxx . Can't wait for it to dry up a little so i can break 'em in .

Third haul here. 1976 B-80. All original, picked it up from the 2nd owner, first was his father in law. Got the owners manual parts lists and attachment manuals. The guy still has the tiller and a snow blower I'd like to pick up as well. Got his tractor and blade for $550. This will end the last for me for a while, I'm getting in trouble with the war department.

Unfortunately the old saying " Buyer Be Ware" bit you early. I would say that most of the guys/gals on here even with the best of knowledge have got burned one time or another. I know I have. Some times it's by a dishonest seller or it can be totally innocent. That fact is we are buying machines that are any ware from 10 to 60 years old. They are mechanical creatures thus they are subject to how they were treated and cared for. Shiney new looking paint can hide a whole host of problems. I know how you feel. So now you set back and have to make some decisions. Take your time and make educated decisions. There is a whole lot of knowledge on this forum. All you have to do is ask.

So between my boss being a dink, and my step daughter being in hospital with my ol lady, my head has been going in circles and going nuts. So I worked til 9 tonight and told myself I was gonna put on my sickle bar assembly after work. So I did. Lemme tell ya, it definately helped my mind. I liked the end result. Got a little tweeking to do, but it's all on. Haven't ran it to see if it works yet, but I will soon.

Some of that belt tension mechanism goes back to 1980 so suspect it was only to ease the starter load. The 1995 314-H shares an operator manual with the 416-H. The 314-H has the tension release feature and the 416-H doesn't. In 1991 only the 312-H had it. No 14hp models in 1991-92. The 416-H did not have it. None had it in 1990. Garry

My raider 8 with my subsoiler I made. I haven't tried it on my wheel horse. Can't wait to try it out.

It is a 1969. No, muffler is exactly as it came. That elbow on the intake makes it really very adjustable and versatile. I was going to go with hard connections at first but for $20.00 decided to buy the flexible pipe, a 6 foot section so this way I could experiment with various setups. It worked out really well also since ID of pipe is 1-1/2" fitting perfectly over muffler pipe, and then the original chrome tail piece that came with tractor muffler when I got it is 1-1/2" OD and fits perfectly at other end. No clamps needed. Routed this way it does not interfere with anything or any attachments.

Thanks, I sure will. I have a lot of projects going on at the moment so it may be a long process I just couldn't pass up the deal I got and it was only an hour's drive away

Key thing to remember as a RS Supporter - NO green, yellow, blue, orange, black (unless on one of God's chosen Black hoods), or any grey (unless it is for a Workhorse)... These aforementioned colors are considered capital offenses, displeasing to the eye, and are immediate justification for calling together the Red Square Color Validation Committee (RSCVC) for institution of Red Square excommunication proceedings... Just kidding...

If this rig looks this good in person you better snag it.Lets say you have to do an engine swap it's still cheaper than buying a new MTD to mow your yard.

When I bought my 520H Anniversary new (and by the serial # it's a1997) my dealer had a tag hanging off the steering wheel $7500 but with a CC for trade and $6300 with 48" deck out the door, (pics from about 7-8 yrs ago), and last year I bought a non running 523Dxi with 282hr that supposed to be an easy fix after finally tearing down the engine for an injection pump replacement that I had spent $1200 on, the crankshaft was ruined another $1000 point is the Onan is way cheaper to fix than a Briggs Daihatsu diesel engine that's $5000 new complete, fix that Onan, Jeff.

Factory hitch, that rig came with a tecumseh peerless 2300 I would say 800 special the A90 was a 1974 model only with late 60's hood

Sorry for your Bad Onan, I got burned twice a long time ago. Now when ever I buy a twin, I unhook one plug at a time before I buy them, I bought a 520 and it seemed to run good, till I got home and tried to mow thick grass and not enough power, and once a Kohler twin sounded great and same problem. Both were a good lesson for me.

the early hydro the lever was also the parking brake, it had what they called a parking paw on them. some of my C series with the sunstrand hydro's have the paw broken on them from people trying to engage without coming to a complete stop. a very big NO NO. eric j

Now wait just a cotton picken minute here! I have not seen a photo shoot of the tractor yet! Sides Front Rear all around. How much did you pay for it? How many Hours on the tractor? I wouldn't be cobbling up a perfectly good tractor with a Kohler. I love my Kohler's too don't get me wrong but why take the easy way out doesn't anyone do anything right anymore? Look inside a Kohler plastic oil pump gears stamped Aluminum Onan Cast Iron Oil Pump Steel Gears. You get what you pay for. ~Duke

Yes I did have to drill new mounting holes. I made my 1/4" spacer and drilled the holes in the end plate on a milling machine. But I could easily have done it on a drill press or with a hand drill. Just be careful with the lay out. It doesn't need to be super accurate,

I know Dale that was on the first show listed. He wear's his Confederate Cap (or in his case Rebel) everywhere! He is famous (or infamous as the case may be)for the yellow speedo swimsuits that he got speedo to make and send him a dozen free pair! The other show features a photo of our 1054 tractors in December of 2014 as backgound on a 633 tractor that they bought in Iowa. That episode was the "Grudge Match" episode where Frank and Mike raced some odd ball cars against each other! Tom Bartlett in Alabama and me in Indiana both had tractor photos used for background on the Wheel Horse Company! Here are some of the pics from the episode!

Yep, definitely a Peerless 2300 transmission. Weak spot in those are the shifter fork detent springs, which become weak or break and will allow the transmission to locked into one gear. Easy fix, and cheap, about $12 for the springs and detent balls, and a few more $ for a gasket. You have to drop the transmission and split it open, just be sure the half with the shifter is on the bottom. If not the gears will fall out and you have a mess to figure out.

This has been posted on here before. I believe they contacted @Lane Ranger about using some of his photos to get some background information on Wheel Horses. There may be other threads on this same episode.

Sing it Brother SING IT! That's my thinking, personally my thoughts are If the engine is too far gone I would find a better one and rebuild it and put it in there. Just too dang nice a Tractor to COBBLE up with a RE-POWER.

LOL...you guys crack me up...come on over and get it Tom...just make sure you bring lotsa swap parts!! It's got a great patina Craig, sure do wish the rest of it was there Correct me if I'm wrong fellas but are you saying '63 was the first year for the lift adjusters like that?

Thanks! YEP, YOU NAILED IT! I went out before it got dark and took detailed photos of the transaxle and it is exactly like that. I'll post them tomorrow. The rear frame and hitch are identical too. I'm certainly learning some good stuff here (and I believe some others are too...) Thanks!
  33. 2 points
I think it is an "800 Special". 3-speed transaxle .... NOT a Uni-Drive. The stub at the front of the frame is for the deck pulley.

My 875 (the first WH hydro) has the disengagement lever. There are no safety switches, so, IMO, the only reason to have the lever would be to make engine starting easier. All my C series hydros have the lever. My '88 520 has the lever. My '95 312 does not have the lever. It appears the lever was eliminated about 1990. If this is the case, I am guessing , the elimination of the levers in the later years was strictly for a cost savings. If we give Garry a couple minutes research time, he will probably be able to confirm when and why this option was discontinued.

Go for it Eric. Give me a call when you're ready to fire it up. Might be the baddest 10HP engine around. And the heaviest.

I had a similar situation. Bought 416 with onan not running right. Ended up parting and the guy that was buying the motor wanted to pull the head and we found there was no piston on one side. I ended up gvingi him the motor

Sorry you got a burnt with the 520 lemon @96WS6TA, let's make some 510 lemonade. Has anyone ever made a one lunger out of one of these half dead P220s? What would be involved? Remove the rod, piston, and valves on the dead cylinder. Block off the intake and exhaust. Balance? Fuel adjustment?
  39. 2 points
Should be 100% plug in play if it's a 16 hp Onan, Jeff.
  40. 2 points
Ya it should bolt right up correct? Wiring and all?
  41. 2 points
if you already have a extra 16 hp onan, stick it in and run it for now, and then when you find another motor swap it back to a 20, I'm actually looking to put a 16 in a 520 chassis to use as a mower tractor. then I get the swept front axle and the as I feel slightly better eaton 1100 520 trans. not sure it's any better then any other eaton 1100, but from what I've seen personally my 520-H pushes snow better then some of the 416-H I've used . You also get save a LITTLE amount of fuel over the 20 hp motor. So yea I have no problem with a 516-H. Although I have enough 520 to play with that I really won't miss the extra 4 hp. eric j

Hi Carlos...check out these links...one for the exhaust and one for the intake valves. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kohler-K141-K161-K181-6HP-7-HP-8HP-Cast-Iron-Engine-Intake-Valve-230582S-/271967055225?hash=item3f527fed79:g:IhUAAOSw9N1V29xa http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kohler-K141-K161-K181-6HP-7-HP-8HP-Cast-Iron-Engine-Exhaust-Valve-230710S-/272600442427?hash=item3f7840a63b:g:gukAAOSwhQhY0ogK The valves are the same for the engines listed. They come ground for your valve seats...if your valve seats are or have been ground recently. You will still need to lap them to seat correctly. To get the gap correct, you need to grind the end of the valve...that is the adjustment. I used a knife sharpening stone and a file to sneak up on the tolerance. As far as your valve seats. I would let a machine shop determine that you need that and let them do it. Hope that helps...and if any of this information is not correct...please correct it.

I'm not trying to talk you out of that, but I hope you are getting it for not much more then free. You will be putting quite a bit of money back into it...and in the end...it is still a vertical shaft horse. It is never going to be worth or be able to do what a horizontal shaft horse will do. It also looks like it has been parted out to a point, and I don't think it is going to be easy finding parts for that style. If that horse is what you are looking for and you know what you are getting into...and accept the challenge, then you are going to save a horse. We can help as much as possible and we would surely like to see how you progress. Looks like they were made from 1980 to 1984...maybe later. They were either a 5 speed manual (Peerless) or an automatic (Eaton). They used a 16hp Briggs for power. We can nail it down if you find a model #...it would look something like 02-16BE01 or 02-16BP04. The "B" is for Briggs...the "E" or "P" is for Eaton or Peerless. I'd be more inclined to walk away if the transmission is the Eaton automatic because...it may be a long time before you find out if the auto is any good.
