    I've been wanting some rear wheel weights for some time. Bit hard to find this side of the pond and if you do find some, silly money usually asked. So with ploughing match coming up at the end of this month, I thought I'd better get something sorted. At a local Land Rover specialists I extracted two Freelander rear disc/drums from his scrap bin. Free! At an engineering shop that specialises in vintage machinery, I obtained a couple of pulleys. £5 each. Pulleys were as bolted to disc/drums. Pulleys drilled and taped to take studs to fasten weights to wheels. Before going any further a trial fit. The weight is not secured, hence the gap at the top. Leaning out a bit. Today I changed the bolts holding disc/drum to pulley. Fitting longer ones and refitting the opposite way round. The reason for the longer bolts is that I was going to fill the drums with lead. With the bolt threads protruding into the drum, the molten lead would flow round the thread and be held in place when cooled. Lead was then melted in to the drums. I only had enough to half fill each drum. But it gave me a total weight of approximately 32lb each weight. That should suffice, but if more needed more can be added. The exposed face of the lead looked rough, so to tidy things up, I cut two discs out of a couple of feed tub plastic lids, to make two covers. In each weight, two off the bolts sticking into the drum, protruded through the lead. With nuts, these are used to secure the covers. Painting is now in progress and I will post photo's when done.

    The boy just won his 4th state championship title last Sunday. He just turned 10 and is really a good kid. He and I are done for the season and going to get back to our tractor hobby together.

    bit of work on the propshaft - a steering column shaft that's telescopic and just about the right scale (mower PTO shafts are rare here in the UK) I've turned the clamp off and added a flange.

    Thank you Jim W. & Richard. I want to send a big thank you to @Vinylguy for his part in this restoration. I sent him this very poor pic that I found on the net. He put his skills to work and was able to make me these beautiful decals. I think he did a fantastic job on them. I can't wait until I'm ready to install them.

    That's great I'm hoping I will bring some of the red home Im not taking my horse up there because I'm worried there won't be enough space in the truck to bring it home

    Just repainted the rear rims and mounted BKT ags.....not original silver, but matt black....need to do the fronts to match!

    Double check this. I don't think the ignition switch has any battery + power. The ignition coil will be compromised. I think the ignition switch simply grounds the ignition wire to shut it off or grounds the solenoid coil to activate it. The small solenoid terminal should be tied to one of the large solenoid posts. Check with an ohmmeter. That would be the one coming from the battery +. The other large terminal goes to the starter motor. In the beginning one 3656 ignition switch had one terminal and grounded the ignition to shut it off. This switch was replaced by 6890. The second 3656 ignition switch had 2 or 3 terminals and kept the 3656 part number. If 2 terminals the body of the switch provided the ground to the chassis. I'm thinking it is the solenoid that is unique. Garry

    Thanks guys... That's the plan , just a nice place to hangout... here's to you @stevasaurus ! ACcuz can do some paperwork without distraction (his wife already runs a business out of their home) in the morning before him and my boy go to the job sites . From last years Big Show I have the banner from @Vinylguy , the license plate from @nylyon and @AMC RULES Sent me a RS magnet for the fridge , so I have a good start . Thanks guys . I've already been asking ACcuz's wife about some signs being made . In my short time collecting I've mast quiet a few RJ and round hood parts...shhhh . My plan is to display them instead of just burying them on a shelf out of sight . Now to keep my eye out for more memorabilia...just thinking of it gets me excited !

    Well it's been slow going getting anyone to start on the 520H or finishing the shop , but when ACcuz said he'd go half on a office/man cave I was all in . Been slowly collecting the materials for the shop (hey I'm cheap) . We got whole complete bundle of 12'x4'x5/8" drywall for $2 bucks a sheet (said they were damaged) every sheet useable. They also told us we could grab all the insulation that was laying around that they bring back from jobs . Cheap and free we loaded up . So when my son and cousin went to the local lumber yard to inquire about a window (got a brand new one $50) they asked about plywood prices . They told him prices are going up daily due to some change of fireproofing the wood and prices are going to go through the roof ! I don't know if there's any truth to this but I figured out what I needed plus extra and purchased 20 sheets . So here's where we're at , a 16'x10' room . We're going to make a sliding door and trim and paint it up like a barn . So hopefully soon we'll have the new headquarters for AC Stables . Got to say ACcuz being in the construction field has its perks , especially commercial tearouts . Free desk , fridge w/ice maker and a whole lot of cabinets . My other cousin just sold his body shop and had his computer just updated and cleaned and asked if we wanted it ... So I'll keep updating as we (should say they as I just watch) progress...

    Seems like I say that nearly every year, but when I look at the alternatives out there I have to admit; NASCAR isn't perfect, but it is far better than open wheel races. Much like Bob, I have been to dozens of Daytona and a couple Homestead races As well as Charlotte. One thing that is constant with NASCAR is change. They seem to think they need to reinvent the sport to keep it fresh. Remember the "Car of Tomorrow". This too will pass. The biggest problem as I see it is the lack of close racing, more short tracks and road courses would generate a lot more entertainment value than the 1 1/2 mile follow the leader tracks that have started dominating the sport. OK, now I will get down from my soap box and get back to Horsin around .

    The rears . . . the NOS tag calls them 12", but when you measure the actual diameter, it's closer to 10". The picture is probably a little deceiving. I took off all the metal clips and used little pieces of rubber trim with rubber cement to keep them on the cap. I then carefully spread the tab just enough to make them snug. Most of them were pretty good as they were because the rubber is about as thick as the metal clips were. Nubbies . . .I'll have to bust out the shaver

    I blow them (oak and maple) onto the driveway and then front blade them to the pile with the C-105. Works like a charm!!! I'm thinking my back lawn would be dirt pretty quick if I used the blade on the grass!!!

    More pics... Just about there... Waiting for the angle adjust pin lock handle and modified angle adjust rod to dry. Will be leaving both pin lock connecting wires as is with their current state of galvanization on them. The rest have been sanded and painted using "Rust Fix" as a base primer and then 3 coats on Rustoleum "Metallic Aluminum" finish... Turned out very sharp! I used Fiber washers on either side of the plate in this first pic and will be doing the same for angle adjust lever as well as the pin lock lever at the top of the adjust lever. Take a look. Will be installing the cotter pins in a few days. Mean time I'll be making the down pressure bar for this setup so I can do some dirt excavation this spring (uuuh... Now?). Last thing to do will be to clean up the original wheel horse sticker and put that back on.

    The solenoid is indeed unique. It has an internal ground activated by switch. Correct switch should have the magneto ground connection attached to it and the other terminal goes to solenoid. The other two heavy gauge wires on solenoid go to battery and starter. Switch only activates a ground connection to start tractor by opening solenoid and grounds magneto to shut engine off when turned the opposite direction. Careful, do not apply voltage to magneto! You will fry it and probably never find a replacement. Both correct switch and solenoid not the easiest things to find if you need to replace them. Looked at mine this morning to refresh my memory. It has been a while since I worked on these. On photos ignore relay, I have lots of wiring for many different things on it. I have wired everything else with same principle in mind. Everything is activated by a ground. Pretty much like old Toyota trucks. In my opinion of all the wheel horses that I have worked on , the 551 is the hardest and most complicated to work on.Not only electrical system is a little unusual, there is so much stuff cramped under hood that it is difficult to get at or see properly. The fact that hood is hard to remove makes it really bad.But on the other hand if you remove the hood then getting throttle and choke cables right is another adventure.

    I purchased one of those repros from te guy who was selling them but have not seen him advertise them here or on bay nor do I remember who he was. I compared his with originals and the originals had a firm straight line on the outside fender where the repop was concave.

    Your switch has 3 prongs? Should only have two. It should be case ground. You may have wrong switch. I will check mine tomorrow. It is the original.

    Unlikely Onan will run out of the modules anytime soon. Can't say for sure but the ebay ones for around $75.00 are imported from what we have heard. The genuine Onan modules are still made here in the U.S.A. Before replacing it though the module should be tested as shown here. Onanmoduletest.pdf

    I use Walmart brand synthetic 10W30 in my Eaton 1100. Works great. I also had the jerky motion on my 416-H, so I replaced ALL the linkage parts, cam, follower, etc with no appreciable change. That's when I changed over to Matt's foot pedal. It was an investment that I really did not have the money for, but found a way to do it anyway. It makes all the difference in the world. Will never go back to the design that Wheel Horse used originally (hand control).

    Looks to me like the solenoid small terminal is hot all the time. The ignition switch would ground the solenoid terminal to activate it. At least that is what the 701 wiring shows and they both use the same solenoid. The 551 does not have a pushbutton for the starter does it? Garry
