Looking at old photos and reminiscing I realized that it was 14 years ago that a Wheel horse first came into property and unknown to us then, it was about to change our lives for ever. In the photo of me looking back on the first ride down the driveway I probably was looking how life used to be up to that moment. Even the happy boy did not imagine that 14 years later, he would have 3 children, 3 tractors of his own and another 10 tractors here.

So a guy in my town leaves a note in my neighbor Tony's (Docwheelhorse) mailbox saying he has some tractors he would sell and gave a phone #. Tony calls and it sounds like there are 6 machine, so he asks me if I want in and I said sure! We get there and the guy gives us a tour of the Wheel Horses he has for sale and except for a couple 310-8s it's all for sale. We asked how much for it all and in the end we settled at a fair price and today we hauled it all home. What did we get? 1979 C121/8 speed with 42" deck, wheel weights and plow bracket 1968 or 69 Charger 12 Auto with 42" deck 1990 or newer 416/8 speed with a nasty 48" deck 1977ish D-160 with 48" deck and a huge snowplow (no engine) Mid 80's rear engine WH 108 with a deck. 1983ish C-125/8 speed Huge Bolens 32" walk behind snowblower 42" long frame snowplow. The C-121, 416/8, rear engine rider and the Bolens are all running machines! I'm keeping the C-121 and Tony is keeping the Charger 12....the rest will be going up for sale (can't keep em all!!) Mike.....

I agree. I wish I could find a nice set like you have there. If you want to part with those, send me a PM. I finally had some time this week to install matching sneakers on the front of the 1276. The front never matched the rear and I just never got around to swapping until now. After that, I threw the hub caps on. From what it was to what it is now

There were a couple things that needed attention on our 856, and before we knew it, it had gotten prettied up. Thanks to Glen Pettit and Vinylguy for their great products. Out of respect for the previous owner, hardware bits came from Grainger. The paint is Ace Hardware rattle can Regal Red and Ivory White for the wheels. Built for mow, not show, it’s enough to get the neighbors jealous. Ready for the grass to start growing. Before= www.wheelhorseforum.com/topic/67501-hello-from-illinois/ Thanks, Chuck & Sally

post 147 in the link Jeff gave is the one you want. It probably is not the brake shaft not lining up, but the cluster gear shaft. You should be able to either swing the plate around or use a screw driver to push the brake shaft to get that started. It's that last 1/4" that is the cluster gear shaft that is listing to port. Use a piece of fishing line to go around that shaft and pull it a little to line up the bearing. Make sure you can pull the line out when you get it to go.

Not really a big deal but I got the plow out and used it on my neighbors garden. It was a lot of fun but I quickly realized that my right tire is too wide for plowing. I can plow about 6 inches deep but the furrow isn't wide enough for my 10.5" true powers to fit into. Consequently my tractor stays fairly level and I don't get the soil to turnover like I would like it to. I may put one of my narrow tires on from another tractor the next time I try to see if that improves anything.

I know a couple months before the show there is a thread started for items that are for sale at the big show. Any thought of formatting these items the same as our classified section? It would save looking at all items being able to distinguish available, pending and closed. May even be possible to post these items in the classified section as 2017 big show items for sale.

I was driving down the road when a Wheel Horse D-250 caught my eye. It was sitting in a guys yard. It looks to be in okay condition but not great and the rear fenders and seat are missing. But it does have a plow and it seems mostly complete. What do you guys think I should pay for it? And what do you guys see for parts that are missing? I have never owned a D-250 and don't know a ton about them.

I suppose I should have started this back when I began restoring this plow but better late than never right? It's pretty much completed now except for the decals that I am still looking for... so technically it's still a work in progress. Anyhow, I picked up the HD-42 plow with an RJ mount back in mid January with great help from @OILUJ52. Here's what I started with: It had all the essential parts; blade, front channel, rj mount, lift bar, and foot pedal (no chain, though). The only things missing were the 2 skids. Everything was in decent condition with some light to mild pitting vertically along the left edge of the blade face. The "front channel", as it's termed in the parts list, came mounted on an A-frame with 4 bolts, and the piece that attaches to the lift bar had been removed from it to accommodate the A-frame setup. All easy fixes! First things first, I made a new piece for the lift bar to attach to on the front channel, welded that on, and welded the 4 bolt holes up on both sides. Next, I made up some skids. I didn't snap a picture of the pitting on the left edge of the blade but I ran side by side beads the entire height of the blade about 2 inches wide - must have blown through 10 rods to do it. I filled in any other digs and gouges with welds. Being a plow, I didn't want body filler anywhere close to the blade. I did, however, use a small amount to fill in a couple of scratches on the topside of the front channel. I made one modification that was not original. There are 2 pieces of angle iron that are bent to fit the curvature of the blade and mounted to the backside of the blade on each outside edge. These were originally plug welded to the blade leaving a gap between the 2 on the outside edge - a perfect place for water to get trapped and promote corrosion. So I welded those up on both sides. It makes the edges look much better too! And I just realized that I didn't snap any pics of everything down to bare metal or after body work either. But, here's everything after all my fixes and shot with a second coat of primer. I'm having some trouble attaching the after paint pics. Will post when I figure it out.

Wow nice find, good project looks like a 1979 or 80 missing parts but don't worry they are out there I know that I'm doing 2 myself, and have one with a loader that is done. But that one looks it needs a lot , get it cheap.

Here's a rear mounted crane i made up a few years back to move around lame horse's. it was easy to make and works very well without putting any stress on the towing tractor. Heres some photos of it behind my Suburban 400.

So I received my pristine NOS hub caps from a friend (non-forum) in Indiana. I am going to put them on either: 1972 Raider 12 or my 1966 1276 So if this were your choice, WHICH tractor would you put them on? Let me know what you think.

Sounds about right from what the masters told me @cschannuth ....6in might be a little much ...I was told 4 with some discretion. High/2nd sounds good. Plow angle is a science in inself and the end matter is that you got good seat time! The Prodinsky clan @Shynonand @prondzy know way much more than I as well as @PeacemakerJack Just glad to see you are givin it a shot! The only thing I really know about GT plowing is is alls good as long as you are having fun!

I never did major repairs but I definitely know how to change oil, grease all the wear points, and sharpen & balance a set of blades to a razor sharp edge . I'd be happy to post more photos, but have a 16meg posting limit. If I sign up for a supporting membership is that extended?

I can not answer your question with any certainty. I can tell you years ago when we were a dealer. We would assemble the wagons to display on the showroom floor. Some of the wagons would come with decals for the front and side pannels some would only have a decal on the front and that was it. Some of the wagons would come with the sides a little different shade of red then the floor.

I built this last fall for a customer, 12'x12'. 3/4" advantec over 2x6pt. Used 9 solid concrete blocks for footings. 2x4 walls 16"oc, 2x6 roof 16"oc. Sliding barn doors and 1 window. Loft over half floor footprint. T111 siding, Finger jointed red cedar trim. Perimeter also got 1/4"X1/4" galv mesh down 10" below grade, 10" out to keep rodents from residing underneath. These aren't cheap to build right. Also did a 12x16 with an attached 8x16 lean to a couple years back same setup. Unfortunately I cannot upload the pic for some reason sorry Here we go

This is the only old pic I have. I'm thinking 67 or 68. 604 is already on it's 2nd Tecky! This was taken the first day I was allowed to cut the lawn by myself. That's my brother in the pic rockin the slacks pretending he's Jack Nicklaus. You can't see the golf club in hi hand. He's thrilled he doesn't have to mow the yard anymore!

Can't find my photos of it, but saw a guy with a rear mount crane, using a Wheel Horse 'A-Frame' as the main beam (the snow plow frame from beneath the tractor), looked very neat and like it should be there.

My Dad was a dealer from the late 1960's until Mid 80's until Toro bought the company. This sticker is on a C-125 that he originally sold and I recently travelled back to WNY to buy from that first owner when I heard it was for sale. He still own's his shop (at 85 years old), but only runs it part time with my older brother handling any parts or repair requests. There's still a far amount of NOS parts collecting dust along with some decent used WH items that I'm sure someone could use, but I don't live in the area and I haven't been able to encourage my brother to catalog or post for sale. And yes, the phone is still the same number!

He had to wear out the Kohler first that takes a long time if you keep oil in it. Your order may be delayed unless you supply the Kohler. If it's rebuildable It way take another 40 years.

Be careful with this as the front axels can't hold the weight that the rear can. I know this because when I was using my FEL as a crane picking up my Onan generator one of the front axels broke tipping the tractor sideways. Then the cut pieces of railroad track I had for additional ballast on top of the rear counter weight slid off. Without that additional weight on the rear, the tractor tipped forward, the generator came crashing down. I had a very short chain so the bucket hit the air cleaner snapping off the carburetor on the generator! Moral of the story is be careful of what and how you pick things up!!!! P.S I didn't have the HD spindle kit at the time.

Thanks for the mounting ideas. I found a section of rubber trim that I used for around the hood rest on my Cub. It fits good and I think I can probably adjust it by prying either in or out on the tab a bit. I tried a little rubber cement on one to start to hold the trim on. It may not be necessary. The clips were fairly easy to get off with the exception of one or two. I'll see how they fit tomorrow and post a picture. Thanks for the opinions
