It's been too long since I posted any pictures and when I did they were in winter mode. Here's some spring stuff.

So I sold my 800 special to make some room in my car port. Then last weekend i was up at a friends house and he was clearing out so I ended up with another... a 1056 to be exact. The suburban is my buddys he had to fill the void after he sold his 953 to me. A new exhaust and wd40 bath I even had a mower deck that fit!No to figure this all out.

I want to give kudos to a company for excellent customer service! B&W Hitches in Humbolt KS.I have a 5th wheel hitch I purchased in 2012. I was putting it in the truck one night last week and one of the u-bolt nuts stripped itself and I couldn't see any way of fixing it unless I cut it off and replaced the u-bolt and nut.I called B&W's 800 number and spoke to a very friendly, nice lady there. I told her that I needed a new u-bolt, she said she would need the serial number of my hitch and then they would send it to me. I called the next day, Friday, with the number and told her I need a new nut also. She told me she would be sending a complete u-bolt kit with all new bolts, nuts and washers and for no charge to me! I received the parts on Monday also! She said it would take about a day to ship because I'm not that far away. It's around 145 miles I think. Can you beat that for excellent customer service? What a great company, great quality products and made in USA!I promptly replied to them with a thank you email. I wanted to pass it along to everyone I can, because good customer service is becoming a rare thing these days. I know we like pics here at RS, so I took care of that.Todd

Well, as the title states, I just added a 1984 C195 to the herd this evening. It has around 1100 hours on it but doesn't show it at all. I've never seen one in person until tonight and it is quite a bit larger than my C165 with the swept axle! Wow. I was a bit skeptical of this machine having a series one KT19 but after seeing it start, run, and cut some grass it sounded nice with no abnormal noises or smells; all deck spindles are quiet and the hydro works great, even the fender pan is in tact! It will need a new pto belt and PTO crank seal but that is something I can replace in a few hours and I don't consider that to be a big deal. My C165 seems little when parked beside it and I consider that one big compared to 95% of the new stuff on the lot these days! Here are a few pictures after I unloaded it from the trailer and there will be more pictures to follow as I clean her up! Never mind the spare trailer tire as my wheel chock, the parking brake needs some adjusting! Hopefully my dad doesn't get too upset with my growing collection in his garage!

Here's a few of my favorite hats I like to mow with. The first one should be mandatory for any owner.... The other two are for fun. They sure get stared at on the 520's or in the Wal Mart store.

My next project is to dig out the old 1956 Ford 860 and start the mowing project out by the hi-way where the grass is now about 2 feet tall. It's too much for my 520's to handle at this stage as much as I hate to admit it, ( I would hate to burn up a pto or deck and pto belt trying) but the 860 is equipt with a Woods shaft driven finish mower and if the blades are sharp will go through high grass and small trees (the deck has many dents and bends in it from mowing roads through my timber backwards.....yes there was beer involved then..... But i'm sure you had already figured that out... ) I start it and let it run once a week but I tend to pile stuff on it over the winter time so I'll let you sneak a peek....

Well, I brought her home with me. I have to say, this thing feels big next to my C165 and 520H! And neither of those are exactly small! The bad: it doesn't turn very sharp (not a surprise), it needs a new PTO belt and a PTO side oil seal, lastly, the parking brake doesn't engage very easily (all minor issues). The good: It starts and runs pretty darn good, the 60" deck is super quiet, new high back seat, and the whole machine is straight and clean; even the rear fender is complete! Man does this engine sound incredible when idling!!!

Hello Everyone, First off I would like to say this is a great forum, heaps of information, helpful people and respect for machinery! This is the story of my Horse, it was traded in at work on a new machine (not sure what the customer bought but in my opinion they got the raw end of the deal), I was immediately interested in it as I have seen a lot of lawn tractors but nothing like this before, it was in a sad and sorry state it did not run but the panels were all straight and was complete. I got it home and replaced the battery and checked over the engine, it cranked and started once primed, the sound of the Onan roaring to life is amazing. I have done some cleaning on it, polishing the hubcaps makes it stand out, they are not perfect but look good still! My intent is to give it a good clean, fix anything that is on the way out or missing. I am currently tossing up having to repaint some areas around the pump and bonnet, I know since it is after 1990 'Toro Red' is the preferred colour over Rust-Oleum Regal Red, what is everyones thoughts? And here is some pics! Love at first sight! After its clean (looking good) Getting down and dirty (Probably the heaviest engine i have had to move) Yummy, frequent cleaning would have prevented this (and a air blower would help) After its clean! Will keep you all posted!

Agreed. With this modern "me" society, I wanted to give credit where credit is due. I've posted this in several forums this week. Thanks, Todd.

Hey guys my name is Rob. I have been searching this site for a few years and finally singed up. I appreciate all of the great information on this site. I have been a fan of Wheel Horse since I was a kid mowing the grass on my dad's C-165. He still has his C-165 and it still runs great. I moved back to OH last year and bought the '85 416-8 on the trailer, and a few weeks ago I picked up a '88 416-8 and a 42" sickle bar in a package deal. I wish the bar fit the 416 but it gives me an excuse to buy another Wheel Horse!! I am looking at a 856 or a Commando 8(which would you choose?) to fill this need. I just need to find a way to explain to my wife why I need a third horse.

Why is it all my craig's list searches keep coming up with this stuff?? Maybe beacuse it's an election year??? Maybe I should just score on it, hook it up to the 520 and run it in parades with presidential wanna be's pictures in the back!!! Have a David Bradley Manure Spreader it holds about 75 bushel. 4 wheel horse drawn but has tractor pull hitch. Works good. Cash only. No texting. Call

My youngest son let one of his friends move into his house as a "house sitter" last year while he was gone for a few months. His responsibilities included: 1. Living there for FREE. 2. Mowing the grass. 3. it would seem.... So, He was able to live there for free and drink beer. However the excuse for not mowing was the brand new Sears pushmower would not start. Go figure... I picked it up and took it back to my garage and repaired a spark plug wire that was torn from the boot and retainer clip that goes to the spark plug. Now have spark... No start. Fuel tank and carb full of water. most likely because the mower and gas can were sitting outside in the rain and the cans caps were not on the can.... WOW.... THIS GUY.... I dumped the water out of the gas tank, filled with fresh gas. and pulled the starter rope more than a few times. Time to remove the air filter and spray carb cleaner down the bore. Well after nursing the poor thing along running on carb cleaner enough gasoline was finally able to get into the carb bowl and it ran on its's own. Just barely..... Here is a picture of what tried to kill me. However Red Square Forum does not allow pictures of dead bodies even if they are of house sitters......

If I had a big open lawn area (and the sun actually made a appearance) I'd definitely rig up a shade like that, sip my 'lemonade' under there. Very civilised.

If you are giving anything away I'll take the garage and either tractor with the sun shades. Bowling Alley wax has quit working on the cue ball that sits on my neck.

Your brake/clutch pedal when pressed down doesn't stop the input shaft from spinning . The belt guard is designed so when you press down on the brake/ clutch pedal it keeps the belt from spinning the input shaft . Therefore the inards of the trans aren't turning and will shift into gear without grinding . Hope that makes sense .

There's a few left out there that still can spell customer service. Todd, it's great that you spoke out for them. So many folks are quick to complain but don't think to compliment when it's deserved.

Last year I finally got the folks up the street to turn loose of the 1267 sitting out nest to the shed with a piece of plywood on top of it. Then a few weeks ago I happened across tis 520 Hydro for an acceptable price. Guess this makes me a Wheel Horse guy. Im happy with the title. Love these little tractors. The 1267 pushes snow like a beast and that hydro on the 520 makes mowing a breeze. Thanks for the addition to the group.

Well thanks to a fellow member here "Waterlooboy2hp" for selling me a really nice square pan seat for my new 753, I got it mounted to see how it looked. This weekend when it warms up I will be painting it regal red and then at the big show I will be picking up a seat cover from another member from here, so thanks again waterlooboy2hp and buckrancher for your help! Here are a few pics for now. Working on getting exhaust back similar to stock also

Let's face it guys, after close to 50 years a lot of things have been done to these tractors. This swapped, that replaced, whatever. Who can really say with certainty? The basis I go on is the original owners manual parts list. But we all know how Wheel Horse did things back then. Using up inventory or who knows. There's a lot of interesting things in this old thread that need some research but the bottom line is true 'original' can no longer be certain in more cases than we want to believe. That group of Wheel Horse employees behind that closed door back in the 60's spent most of their time looking to the future by plotting how to mess with the minds of old 'kids' 50 years later. What they missed was covered by the multitude of guys like me that swapped parts back in the 60's and 70's that have now been assumed 'original' (cuz they now look old)

This model has an Eaton 700 transmission which is not meant for ground engaging attachments. Think I would limit traction by leaving the chains off to save the transmission. Garry

Funny thing, my dad uses a woods mower behind his 8n to mow his property. It's not a finishing mower but with sharp blades it does a darn good job.

5-19-1962 "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" is a song sung by actress and singer Marilyn Monroe on Saturday, May 19, 1962, for President John F. Kennedy at a celebration of his forty-fifth birthday, ten days before the actual date (Tuesday, May 29). Monroe sang the traditional "Happy Birthday to You" lyrics in a sultry, intimate voice, with "Mr. President" inserted as Kennedy's name. She continued the song with a snippet from the classic song, "Thanks for the Memory", for which she had written new lyrics specifically aimed at Kennedy. Thanks, Mr. President For all the things you've done The battles that you've won The way you deal with U.S. Steel And our problems by the ton We thank you so much Afterwards, as an enormous birthday cake was presented to him, President Kennedy came on stage and joked about Monroe's version of the song, saying, "I can now retire from politics after having had Happy Birthday sung to me in such a sweet, wholesome way," alluding to Marilyn's delivery, skintight dress, and image as a sex symbol. The song and Monroe's performance have been remembered for numerous reasons. It was one of her last major public appearances before her death less than three months later on August 5, 1962. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy did not attend the celebration. Monroe was accompanied by jazz pianist Hank Jones.

I agree with you 100% but if V-Four is on a limited budget I just pointed out the cheap easy fixes first then the AG tires, as I said with my yard the turfs don't cut it with weights (no fluid) but the 97 with AG tires fluid and weights is like a tank, and going with the original title of this post what tires are on the logo? HHHMMM seems like a no brainer AG tires on a WHEEL HORSE just my ...Jeff.

Very similar to the one I designed for my GT14.... works awesome with the snowblower...... and I can still use the OEM hand control, nice feature is the top and bottom pedal so I can with my foot only go forward, backward etc.

It accomplishes it's task by easing the belt away from the motor pulley. Depending on the model there's one or two tabs. These need to be adjusted properly. The manual will give you the exact distance they need to be from the belt when it is tight. As a rule of thumb I use 1/8".

Hello MXMW...Welcome to Red Square. Welding new teeth on the mushroom gear is an option. We have a few machinist members here that could do that, but I don't know if anyone has done that yet. It is still fairly easy to find parts. About your differential bull gear. Is the gear the bolt on type or is the differential and gear one piece?? This is the one piece. I am having issues trying to load pictures for some reason. The WH# 1257 is now TORO #83-2840...they are the same and the right ones. Here is the 2 piece..

How old is the battery>??? get it tested. You can waste a lot of time running down the problem only to find it was a weak old battery. With as many horses as you have $25 bucks at harbor freight will get you a serviceable batter load tester....

The fact that it is an early production 400 is more of a bragging point than a bargaining point. If you are good at body work I think it would be nice to save it, show some before and after photos and be proud of your accomplishment. If not, save the old one as a wall hanger and find a good hood to replace it.

Realized today as I was installing mid mount attach-a-matic mounts that I had installed the fan gear to spindle tie Rod upside down or reversed. Switched it back. The design of this tie Rod does not match the one on Lazarus. And this tie Rod impacts with mid mount hardware and limits turn radius. Gonna leave it for now but may have a new one made up later using Lazarus' as template. Seat is installed and rear panel and decal. Starting to look like a tractor again. Rain is on forecast for tomorrow but hopefully I can do wiring and tackle some additional assembly. The countdown is ticking down to Monday when I have to start earning a living again.

You can get the seals here: http://www.partstree.com/parts/search/parts/?searchTerm=83-2840 The link oliver2-44 is excellent and also go here: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/forum/144-transmissions/ There's several good threads and videos to help you out. Download the service manual here: I do have some parts. I would suggest getting everything apart and posting good pictures. Visuals are far better than trying to explain. You'll get tons of help here. Oh yea..........

I believe it comes down too. Are you buying the right tire for your needs? Are you buying a cheap tire and expecting the performance and durability of a high quality tire. If so you may be let down. I do believe the cheap bar style tires do fill a niche in the GT world.

Are you talking about the leveling rod on the deck? Should be a cotter or hair pin in the top 90° bend where it goes to the lift linkage and where the trunion goes into the gauge wheel support, I just made a new one posted under " leveling rod & trunion"...and then a picture of the shift linkage as it should be,Jeff.
