Back when I had my A/C business I used to do mobile a/c repair at area farms. I had 1 older farmer that had all Farmall/IH tractors and did custom combining all over the north eastern part of our county. Great guy and would always pay in cash what I wanted for any job with out quibbling. His son on the other hand thought he new everything and let everyone know about it. Anyway his son bought one of those Panthers. Father was pissed because it was green! Dad called one day because the Panther's A/C quit. I came down spent about 4 hours there and when done told dad the total. He reaches in his pocket and gives me $50 more than I wanted and says the extra is because his son is paying and it's green! Son comes into the store I worked at a couple of days later squawking about the cost. I say it's fixed, aint it? and he leaves. Fast forward 6 month's. Son calls yelling that his A/C doesn't work. I go out there and just the dad's there. I start it up and the A/c is running but little air is coming out the vents. I ask if the filters have been checked lately and the dad said his son just changed every filter on it. I pull the cover on the smaller stack and the filter is plugged solid. Now air is flowing good without the filter, OOPS!! Son missed that one! The Dad ask's how much I needed and I say don't worry about it. He reaches into his pocket and hands me $50 and says it will be worth the look on his son's face when he gets home!

Well, I've talked about it and thought about it a lot, and inspired by some of bobs fantastic creations and a few others I finally got started. For those who are wondering what the hell I'm on about here's a few of my faves - there's a doe triple d there too built by Simon here in the UK. The idea of a 4x4 wheel horse attracts me as well as the fact I like big tractors and the oversize ags that go with them. I've a big pile of spares and a Raider 10 minus the engine that looks like a start point Here's the first prototype.... It's a bit weak on power and steering - as well as a few other obvious omissions . This actually let's me see how the transmissions sit. This is more what I'm thinking though.... So armed with two gearboxes, I started the measurements and plans....

after selling the previous '73, and regretting it since, I finally located another. it was 75 miles away, which after a few longer, wasted trips, is my maximum driving distance. it has a few issues, especially electrical, but runs good. the deck with it is so far gone, I think I could crumble it with my hands. but the spindles feel ok. the steering is tighter than my 310. unfortunately, I will have to let it sit until this winter. I have to finish painting the house/ redo the living room/ install new gutters./ etc, before winter gets here. a brand new toy, and I have to wait until Christmas

I was totally amazed what a wheel Horse black hood can do with a 210lb son standing on the 48" blade. It totally dug in to the dirt packed #57 limestone and dug it down at least 2 full inches in front of the garage door, and leveled the loose gravel-made the driveway look like it had 5-7 tons dropped off and spread. .(make sure your blade weight gets off so you can raise the blade). 1980,12 hp muscle car, front, rear weights with chains.

A good friend of mine gave me this dozer blade he had sitting back in the weeds a few months ago. I used it the other week to grade asphalt millings where he parks the vehicles (His 520 was a little under the weather). So I got bored this afternoon and it got the best of me. I decided to give it a quick make over. I sanded, primed, and shot it with magic IH red. Its feels good taking something from being a rusted piece of metal to something with new life breathed into it. :)

Hello All, well after lots of coaxing and watching from a distance as Craftsman after Craftsman and other similar "riding mowers" where blown up, wrecked or otherwise destroyed I was finally able to convince a friend of mine to go Wheel Horse. He picked up a C125 8 speed and a C125 Auto with manual lift and brought them home. Both arguably had been put throgh the ringer and the Auto had a blown engine. He managed to get the 8 speed running but the tractor needed an air filter assembly, hub tightening and on and on an on. After I went out to my "junkyard" several times I was able to get him all the bits and pieces he needed and then I showed him how everything goes together. I spent a couple hours over his place and got the mower deck rigged and the tractor serviced. I traded him a plow bracket and plow frame in exchange for the 125 auto carcass.... not really a great deal for me but I don't mind. Another Wheel Horse has been brought back and put to work, as they all should. His name is Jim and hes from the next town over... I will get him to try and join the square..... He did mention that he moved some big rocks with it and couldn't believe how much guts it had. your preaching to the choir my friend! Tony

NEVER...and I mean NEVER have an auction during a home HUSKER football game (for more than one reason) but mainly for my sake. The DVR was getting good use today. Anyway, there was an auction about an hour away, had a '88 or '89 520H on it with 650 hours. You could tell it was taken care of all it's life and in the shed/garage. It came with the following... 1.) 520H with good tires (the rears were bar tires) and a FACTORY foot hydro. 2.) 36" rear tiller 3.) 48" Deck 4.) 46" Bervac 2-stage snow blower 5.) Factory Wheel Horse snow cab (with glass windshield, electric wiper/fan/light) 6.) 2 sets of 2 link tire chains 7.) ALL the manuals in a Wheel Horse three ring binder 8.) 6 25lb suitcase weights 9.) 2 Wheel Horse rear wheel weights (plastic) 10.) 4 Cast iron front Wheel Horse wheel weights 11.) NOS Wheel Horse cover 12.) Brand new tiller belt 13.) A 5 gallon bucket of other misc parts and brackets for??? I bid it up as far as I wanted to go, then it sold on the next bid...I maybe should have went a tad more, but I could tell the lady that bought it REALLY wanted it. What do you guys think the WHOLE thing sold for?????? After the sell, I went and talked to the nice lady and asked her if there was anything that she would think about selling. I told her i would be interested in the cast weights, cover, and suitcase weights. She thought about it for a while and she said she would sell them and we agreed on a price. I had to take one set of weights off the tractor. I hung around for a bit and kind of explained to her how everything hooked up, and what every part was for. Then I gave her my name and number and told her that if she ever needs any help on it, or wants to sell anything off of it, I would be MORE than interested. This is what I ended up with...for $164

I'm still amazed that the K181 in my 857 has never let me sit. Always starts, always finishes what it starts. I love the square hoods. I just forget about the rear lift latch sometimes and wind up catching the seat pan in the crotch and singing opera for an hour. Your tractor looks solid and I'm sure you'll find time to play with it once and awhile before Christmas!

I just had two of those two piece seats recovered a couple weeks ago at a local upholstery shop. You have to realize they will never look original as the details on the bottom cushion and the logo on the back cannot be duplicated. They are like branded in there. I have to say it was not cheap to have them recovered but I think they did a real nice job. Since I have to get rid of everything I have posted them in the classifieds here.

I'm not sure that I agree that they are unpopular. There are a bunch of guys that sing the praises of the B80's (myself included) and the 73 models were basically the same as the later B's. I don't love the styling but the K181 is a great motor, and if you stay with a sensibly sized deck they perform well. Much more economic on fuel, quieter, great snow pushers. I've been threatening to scrap my B80 for about 5 years now, but somehow I always seem to find another use for it, and it dodges the chopping block again.

I've got a constant rotation of parts thru the tank. That is the best thing about using the e-tank, I can just load it and pull them out when I am ready for he next part. The parts can be in there anywhere from a few hours to several days. I usually have several parts in there at a time and I just pick out the one that looks like it is most ready. Or in some cases the next part I need to move forward with assembly. The battery tray was in for about 20 hours(I think). The foot rest was in for about a week so, it almost wiped clean except for the really rusty areas. They took a little work to get them to shine. Thanks for the enthusiastic support. It's people like you that help to keep me motivated. I am looking forward to showing it off at the big show in June.

In your case, the lack of the steel reinforcement bar around the bottom is a bonus... repair will be considerably easier. I have saved some almost as bad as yours, considering the price to replace the deck, it was worth it. Time consuming, but worth it. You'll never get it perfect. Use a small hyd jack to force it back to shape. When in close-to-shape is attained, acetelyne torch stress area to keep shape after releasing the pressure. Get some big C clamps, heavy flat stock, hammer, hammer, pry bar...whatever it takes.

Some how with all these invasive species taking over our farms, plains, forests and streams, I can't help but feel that come July next year, all of them are going to migrate to Gettysburg where there will be an epic battle between all of them. Stink bugs, Asian lady bugs, Gypsy moth caterpillars, emerald ash borers, Hemlock wooly adalgids, followed by the Chestnut Blight, Tomato rust, Asian Carp, That freakin Snakefish that can wiggle on land for awhile, zebra mussels, whirling disease parasites, hay scented ferns, Rose of Sharon bushes, Tree of Heaven, and any number of other insects, viruses, molds and fish you can think of. This is the price we are paying for our NEW WORLD ECONOMY! Oh how I hate what has happened! Oh and putting some activated charcoal in your ShopVac helps a lot with the stink. Really worked well with the ladybugs!

As I have said before I have a standing offer of $75 to 100 on any tractor that is mostly complete, that one with the blower and deck I would go $100 might go a little higher if I could hear it run, I bought a Raider 10 lastnight guy wanted $300 for it I could not hear it run no spark, they started to strip the paint off it very ugly tractor, it has a nice snow blade, I offered $75 he said no so I started back to my truck, he asked if I would go higher, I said no, well in the end he added a lawn roller in on the deal and I paid $100 for it all.

I figured I would chip in. I posted pics of my "one armed bandit" last year. It looks really funky but works very well. I have included a couple of action shots as well. Right now I have the single arm FEL on my C-165 8 Speed. It will bolt right up to my 520H, 312H, and C-125 as well. Takes about 45 minutes. Here is the head on shot. The blackhood looks good! I fabbed up some pallet forks over the winter - they come in handy! Here's a clearer shot of the forks. I had the scrap steel lying around - just some cutting, tapping and welding. Completely changes the way I store things now. I have to build a weight box some day. Right now, I use an HF 500lb cargo carrier hooked into one of Scott Moreau's 2" recievers. That's about 200 lbs on the carrier. That log weighs about 250. It's not an ark loader, but works great for what I need. The FEL is rated for 300lbs, but I've lifted more than that on occasion. Thanks for the opportunity to show off one of my toys. Jack

I finished this up just in time for the Jacksonville show this weekend. Some of you probably saw it there, but I thought I would share some photos of the project. It was/is a Radio dumping trailer. I wanted a cart to pair up with a Wheel Horse, and I liked the size and style of this one. it started off in decent shape other than the rear lip was rusted through. I wish I had taken more pictures during that part of the project. I cut the bad section off and then tried to curl some of the good part over to match the rest. The results were so-so, but after welding a 5/16" rod in to help reinforce it, and some more grinding and filling, it turned out decent. Fixing the lip was probably the worst part. The parts all cleaned up pretty easily. I didn't get too carried away trying to smooth out the inside because I do plan on using the cart some. I sprayed the inside with some spray-on bedliner stuff. Then I painted the rest of it with the Rustoleum Regal Red and Canvas White. Unloaded and headed into the show... In line with the rest... Despite the appearance that it could rain any minute, it hadn't yet when we got home from the show so we went out and picked our "Big Max" pumpkin. The cart and 854 did a fine job bringing in the crop!

You would think so! I think they just spent their entire life outside. I figure If I can bring this back to life I can tackle almost any restoration/rebuild! Of course I may have more $$ in it than it is worth when I'm done but I'll consider that educational costs.

I think I am back on track, paint prep flub repaired! It is not as good as it should be but it will be under the tank stand. As long as I can forget about it all is good. I have to keep reminding my self this is still going to be a worker, I just don't like making mistakes. I know it is going to happen but I still don't like it! At this point the trans is primed, sanded and ready for color coat. I also realized I have not posted any pics of the tractor before I started. I already had a few things off since I snagged the tank for my other 310-8 and the hood was loose when I got it. . Going into PA tomorrow to pick up my hoodstand from Jdog's Horse Ranch! I'm thinking I should probably take some extra $$, who knows what else I may come home with.

Well here's my construction material of choice (Free) A 16ft RSJ from the old garage! It's 3/8" so pretty chunky, but fun to work with. This is the start of the centre pivot - kinda the most important bit of an articulated vehicle... Implement lift pins and bushes from the agricultural merchants down the road seem a sensible buy compared with making them... And a start was made on selling holes for the pin and bushes. Here's the various stages of cutting and shaping. And the plate that mates to the end of the chassis getting tapped to accept 3/8 bolts. here's a quick 2D sketch of the pivot. Mark
