6 pointsI'm pretty new here on RS and have talked and met a couple of the members. I just started a restore on a C-105 and have a B-165 lined up next as well as a C-175 waiting in the wings. As you can tell I am a square hood kinda dude...but even I couldn't walk past this beauty when I saw it. I had to have help identifying it for sure so thanks Bill!! Found covered in dust and a pile of parts from other tractors on top was this little round hood beauty. Been told it is a '57 RJ-35. Side even has "Pond" stamped in the side and was told it looks complete and original. Needs some work but I'm just happy this little pony will be joining the herd.

3 pointsAs some of you my screen name Riley088 is after my daughter Riley who was born in 2008. Last year she decided to take claim of my 1077 that was in really nice original condition. Everytrhing on it worked the way it was supposed to with no issues so I felt safe with her on it .She loved taking around the yard with of coarse myself or my wife right with her. Torwards the end of last season she said "daddy i want you to paint my tractor this winter" I was thinking this will be a nice winter project. Then she said "daddy I want it pink" so off to home depot to let her pick out what color pink she wanted. the tractor was taken all the way down and the work began. It was a great one to do. She absolutly loves it and thats what makes it worth it. Enjoy BEFORE

2 pointsTaylor, that is exactly what I would do. Keep the patina look, I think you'll enjoy the tractor more. It looks pretty cool as it is, you'll save money and you won't have to worry about scratching it.

2 pointsThis is a project that gives me hope for the next generation, we need more teachers like you.

2 pointsFunny you should bring this up Mike. I've had nothing but problems keeping my stuff going and I just recently figured out stuff is getting into the carb.( My lawn ranger gas tanks are really dirty with rust and junk) I took a look at the fuel filters I've been buying at $7.99 a crack from my local hardware store and read on the package that it is a 40 micron filter. So I started looking around and found some 80 and 150 micron filters for sale at a place not too far from home. I opted for the 150 micron filter at a easy to swollow $1.29 each in a 10 count package. Cleaned up my carbs and tested these out and now when I drop the bowl on my carbs they're very very clean. so far I've cleaned carbs and installed these better filters on three of my four lawn rangers and am very happy with the filters performance. I'll have to wait and see how they do for the long hall. Just my 2 cents ....

1 pointHow many of you guys or gals have a Snowco implement trailer to haul your GTs around on? If you have one, then post a picture of it. They were built here in Nebraska (In Omaha) and that's one reason I like them and also the same brand as 8 or 10 of my trikes.... I have 2 of them. First one is a 954, 900lb capacity 54'' wide 10' 10'' long. Second one I just got yesterday is a 948, 900lb capacity 48'' wide 9' 9'' long.

1 pointOk this is just me blowing off some steam so please just bear with me for a few minutes..... Last evening I found this ad for a 4 series wh that I wanted to buy. I talked to my wife and got her blessing as I always do before I even placed the call. I talked to the guy for 5 minutes getting details about the tractor and at the end of our conversation I told him I was buying the tractor but since it was 2 hours away I could not make it down until Saturday. He said not a problem he would see me on Saturday. So I hung up the phone and went back to watching my step son's football game looking forward to Saturday when I can pick up my newest horse. Now fast forward to this afternoon when i called the guy to let him know I'm going to be bringing my father in law along to help us load the attachments. No sooner did I get that statement out of my mouth he says "too late its sold first come first serve." It took a second to sink in. I said of course its sold im picking it up on Saturday. "No a guy came and got it last night, sorry". To say the least I was a little irritated...not so much that im not buying the tractor but the fact that we had an agreement and he didnt even have the courtesy to call me when he had my number and say hey if you want it you better get down here tonight. If I wouldn't have called today I would've been banging on his door come Saturday. I just starting thinking or more so wondering if in todays society does a mans word mean anything anymore. Can deals be done with a hand shake and that word. I dunno maybe I am old fashion..maybe it is my fault, maybe I should have just left the game drove two hours to get it and not assumed that it wouldnt be sold out from under me since I gave him my word and he gave me his. This isnt the first time this has happened to me nor will it be the last. I understand the man with the cash is the one who gets the goods. Its just frustrating when someone goes back on their word. Ok thank you, I feel better.

1 pointThere is a 1/4" roll pin securing the s/wheel to the s/column. It has been rusting in there for 35+ years. First, buy a ROLL PIN PUNCH set. Craftsman has a suitable set of 6 for < $20 bux. Don't even think about drilling it out...roll pin is much harder than a drill bit. Second, buy an aerosol penetrant to spray the roll pin and the top of s/column (under the s/wheel cap). After a couple days of penetrant soaking, try to drive the roll pin, one direction or the other. Don't be bashful....the roll pin is TIGHT. If you fear crushing your hand or fingers, have an in-law hold the punch for you. Once you have the roll pin out, try to drive the s/wheel DOWN just to break it loose from its family of rust. You can use an impact socket for this...just big enough to fit over the 3/4 dia s/column and long enough to smack with a big hammer. When you get it to move down a little bit, wire brush all the rust from the top end of the s/column so the s/wheel will slide up without dragging on a bunch of old rust and crud. Keep the penetrant flowing and twist the s/wheel back and forth while pulling up on it, grunting a prayer with every strain.

1 pointJohn I hope you enjoy this RJ-35. it's a great find and you should try to talk to the Lady you got it from & find out as much history as poss. It is the history of these tractors that has gotten lost. and sometimes that is the really cool part (if they could only talk). Bill

1 pointI have changed one and am going to do another. You have to put a plug at the bottom with a whole just small enough for the wing nut rod to go through. and the top needs to be drilled out, not sure exactly how big. The elbow you have will not work...not sure if it can be modified. The original elbows are very hard to find...there is also a bracket that will go under it to support it and will bolt to the oil pan bolt. Check out the original one on ebay right now...crazy price!

1 pointCraig, I bought one at the show this summer. If I remember I will bring it to kent. I will also bring a correct updraft I have as well.

1 pointThanks to dad cleaning out a mouse nest from the engine of the 420-LSE, it looks like we have another tractor to bring along. If someone could reserve some space for me on Saturday, I'd be appreciative. I'm bringing three big boys. I'm giddy with excitement. I haven't been to a single show yet this year and it looks like this is pretty much the end of the season for this sort of thing locally. I wish I could swing more than a day (saturday) but it's not in the cards. See you folks Saturday morning! Steve

1 pointWell I am ordering some shirts for the kids with the logo that Terry provided. The kids are paying for them on their own. I was able to get a break on the pricing for the shirts since it is a school club, so that was a big help. Making them available for members on here would be tough but not impossible. I do it for my show that is coming up on October 5th and I am swamped with getting things prepared for that at this time. I appreciate any and all of the support that we have received so far. I wouldn't be able to pull this off without the generosity of so many great members!

1 pointThanks for the kind words you guys. It is definitely a highlight of my week to work with these students. They did a good job last night but are now getting a taste of how long this project is going to take. We had a couple of piles of rust and red paint dust on the floor when we were done. The most important thing is that they have great attitudes and are looking forward to getting back to work on it next week. I will continue to post the progress. We are having a blast!

1 pointThanks as always Gents. Finally got some Inner Tubes that (I think) do the job properly. I kept getting these silly little wheelbarrow type tubes that would struggle to inflate to the correct size without tearing the valve out and they were quoted as 4.80 x 4.00 x 8. In the end, I went for 5.00 x 8's and they fit perfectly without strain or puckering.........So the old C-120 Is now the proud wearer of Tri Ribs and it look's just that little bit more correct so to speak. It is also an absolute pleasure to steer now, tracks perfect with hardly any wander and can be steered with one finger on flat ground. I'm happy! .

I said hey check out this trailer im redoing over here and its even a Snowco..... He said hey I just sold one of them to my son. I said is it forsale? So he called him and told me where to find it here in town. Lets just say the bills flew out.. More pictures.

1 pointUpdate on my Suburban 401 Restoration: Took off the snow blade today so that I can work on the tractor easier and move it around better...Will put it back on before winter as I think I am going to use the Suburban to plow snow this winter before I restore it next spring. Also, took the original 4 hp out today as it does not have any compression and I could not get it going. Luckily, I have 2 other K90/k91 Kohler's (one is rebuilt and one is not) laying around (that I bought from my grandpa for this project) so I am going to put the one in it for temporary (Will put the rebuilt 4hp in later when I actually restore the tractor). Am putting the one in now so I check everything out and get some seat time! I have to admit, these little Kohler's sure are easy to work on and move around! Here is a little interesting side note: The K90/91 that I putting in the Suburban now (Is the red one in my pic) is actually the same engine that my Grandpa had in his RJ58/59 when he bought it new in '58/59 and also the same engine that my dad later used in his mini bike as a kid when my grandpa sold the RJ so it is a great piece of family history and I think it is cool I will be using the same engine in my own tractor 50+ years later! Next step will be to get the engine in, get a few things hooked up, and take the Suburban for a test run! Sorry if this was a little long! LOL! ~ Taylor

1 pointWhat another exciting night of tractor club! Club meeting #3 was a huge success! The kids were ready to work and get dirty, and that they did. We had a few club members absent due to previous commitments. Those that were in attendance did not disappoint. Breaking down the tractor continued tonight and the hand sanding has commenced. I am very proud of the kids for their patience and persistence. They are understanding that this will be a long, but rewarding chore. Hope you enjoy some of the photos from tonight!

1 pointThat is always good stuff, the WWII birds were all just so classic, their lines, the way they sounded, the history behind them. How can you not love them if for no other reason than the history behind them! My uncle piloted a B-17 with the 8th Air Force. I did not know it until recently but supposedly he was checked out to fly not only the Fortress, but the B-24 and the B-29 as well? That surprised me as I would have just figured they would only have been cleared to fly one type of plane and not multiple types. BTW: I do not know if this is true or not, but according to my dad (85 yo) he says that the B-17's in operation today do not sound as those during the war because the engines in those remaining are not the same as what they originally had. As I said, I am no expert and for all I know pop is wrong, but for what it's worth that is what my old man says.

1 pointSpindles, spindles, spindels,,,, Anyone ever have a Gravely walkbehind and the 40" 2 blade commercial deck? Ever look at the steel manufactured spindles housings, they amount to a piece of pipe and a flat plate welded together and the pipe bored to accept bearings, nothing complicated, no castings, easy to make for anyone with the skills and tooling to do so.

1 pointYour before pics bring to mind the Kenny Rodgers song "The Gambler". Aparently you have decided to hold, I think I would have folded. Good job and remember we do what we do for the fun of it.

1 pointAs long as there isn't any green showing. The throttle and ckoke cable hookup points may have to be relocated. Nothing major though. Not a bad idea to kill a Deere to save a Horse.

1 pointDid you know that SnowCo also made snowmobile trailers that were re-badged and given Wheel Horse model numbers? The greenish regular SnowCo was available both before and after as an Allied attachment, but for at least 1970 Wheel Horse had these snowmobile specific trailers. There were two available. The single place trailer was model 9-0501 (SnowCo model 637) The two-place was model 9-0511 (SnowCo model 863) This image is from the 1970 Snowmobile Accessories Brochure Very few are known to exist among collectors. There are a few of the single place, and mine is the only two-place that I know of. Here's a few more pictures. These are before / afters of the same trailer as it's changed hands. This was an NOS deck and tongue that had been purchased at a dealer auction and built using available axle parts. Somewhere I have pictures of these decals to send to Terry, gotta remember to look for those. This is my two-place trailer.
