5 pointsOnly got this one picture. Deere was the feature tractor this year, but only had fifteen or so garden tractors to show up and most of them were newer models. Had about 65 total this year up from 30 last year. Hope to grow this local show with even more garden tractors. This was taken around 11 on Friday and more showed up in the late afternoon and Saturday morning. Was good to visit with folks that would start out saying 'I had one of them' and not really remembering what they had.

3 pointsWait a minute here. You are trying to sell these tractors and you don't want to spend $30 on a battery. I guess it depends on the condition of the tractors you are trying to sell and how much you are trying to get for them. I refurbish the tractors I sell and they will usually get a new battery. If I sell a parts tractor or one that I haven't done anything to, then it won't get one. That little detail could make or break a buyers decision to buy and it's not just the fact it doesn't have a battery. It says something about you as a seller. What other things did you not want to spend a few bucks on? If you are planning to sell them in the $200 range I can see that but if you think you can $400 probably not unless the buyer really wants it. You could invest in a jump box instead of buying 9 batteries if that's the way you want to go. Just saying.

1 pointI recently bought a Kohler k160 motor that I was told had a broken rod which was ok as all I wanted was the ignition system off it for another motor upon closer inspection I found that the motor was siezed and that the rope starter pulley was loose on the crankshaft and shucking back and forth I deceided to remove the tinware and cylinder head and give the piston a good soaking with penetrating oil a couple of hours later some light raps with a hammer handle and the piston was moving up & down and no broken rod next I cleaned the points and hooked the spark plug back up to check for spark Nothing at all so off with the flywheel and find this is the problem Got out the good old Kohler engine parts book and find that I need a #230075 coil which is NLA soooo on to E-Bay found a used one for $200.00 The next few hours I spent searching online and this is what I found The ignition system is a Bendix Scintilla magneto ignition system this system was used on small one and two cylinder motors and that some old mercury outboard motors used them also I found several web sites that sold vintage outborad motor parts and which had new reproduction bendex scintilla coils for around $60.00 bucks so I ordered one mounted on the motor the only thing i needed to do was lenghen the condenser wire the coil seems to be a exact replacement for the kohler part number after this I lapped the head and replaced the head gasket also new condenser ,points and spark plug also a complete carb rebuild without using any NC chem dip and a differant gas tank and line new muffler too sorry for the back ground noise in this video as my cnc machine was running behind the camera runs pretty good for sixty plus years old Brian

1 pointSo....I have been looking after and feeding a stray cat at work for the past few months. I happened upon her while I was sifting thru the pallet pile, she was looking pretty desperate and was wicked thin. The truck driver at work told me she has been there at least a year, he would often come upon her as he was getting his truck ready to roll early in the morning. She would usually run out from beneath his truck. Anyhow, I started feeding her and when I discovered she was living in the cardboard dumpster I had to make her a house. Believe it or not I would check on her a few times a day, she really enjoyed the attention and is very friendly! She would actually come into my open shop door and just plop down on one of my benches and chill for a few hrs. Yesterday while hanging out with her at break time out back near the pallet pile I saw a young coyote heading over to her cat house! Just before that coyote showed up for some reason she got up and took refuge in the pallet pile. Now I knew why and right then I decided she was coming home with me. So....I bring her home today, I cleared out my shed and put her cathouse in. I figured I'd give her a half can of food so she'd know that this is where she now eats and sleeps. After about an hour or so I told my son it was time to open the door to the shed and let her do a little exploring. Within a half hour or so she was nowhere to be seen for the next few hrs. My son started to worry but I told him she'd be back, she is just checkin out the hood. The wife gets home and says, where the cat? I said I don't know, off checkin things out. Man was she mad I let the cat loose so soon telling me she'd never find her way back to a new home so soon. I didn't know any better, I've never owned a cat before, I just figured they could always find there way back home. It really didn't occur to me that the cat didn't know this is now her home. So now my son is real worried and now I'm a little worried to. Its now dark and me and the boy are now off wandering around the neighborhood callin here kitty kitty for the next hour or so without finding her. We get back home and I shine the flashlight in the back yard and we see green eyes, another here kitty kitty and she comes trotting right up to us! I really wasn't too pleased with my wife for putting a scare in us and making me feel like a total idiot. So, if there are any cat people in the house, how do I go about letting this cat know this is now home? I'm also wondering how to introduce the kitty to my beagle who just so happens to actually like cats. To top it all off I suspect this gal has a few buns in the oven! For tonight I locked her in the shed but I really don't think that is right. This week I'm planning a trip to the vet for shots etc. I wasn't planning on letting her in the house until I know she isn't carrying any types of disease etc. Thanks for any advice!

1 pointI'm always envious of yall that live in the midwest and towards the east when it comes to used WH stuff, not of the winter weather, that's for sure. BUT when I see these WH's for sale or parts available, they are invariably way, way up north.... Are there any folks out there from down here? This is my daily driver: the coffee can is my drink holder - held on my an old speaker magnet, as well as my machete. The bucket is hanging of of my seat cover....

1 pointIf you put food in there regularly it "may" stay in there from time to time but they tend to mostly do whatever they want.

1 pointThese got dropped off today. A new carburetor and electronic ignition kit should come soon. I need to get this darn thing finished!

1 pointHey guys, My brother started working at a small engine repair shop last year, (way cool). A mom and pop place that used to be a WH dealer. Anyway he took me for a tour thru the shop area, and I noticed a few signs tucked away in the corner. Couldn't help but thumb thru in an off chance there'd be gold in there. Well...there was. He could tell that I wanted it pretty bad, (cartwheels might have gave it away). He introduced me to the owner, and I made him a kind offer. He told me he'd think about it. I assured him it'd be hanging in my garage in a very nicely kept place, and not for resale. Well I left without the sign. A couple of months later, my brother gave the sign to me for my 40th birthday. Said he got it for $50. I told him he stole it. I had my little helper with me to clean it up just a little, put in a new ballast, chord, bulb, and hung it up. I tied it into a motion sensor so whenever you're in the garage, she turns on. Look pretty nice to me. It's not perfect, but that's what makes it perfect. Still has some grease stains, etc, and a couple of cracks. I'm digging it. Let me know what you all think.

1 pointI have 3 tractors that I keep that take the same battery. If I get a tractor to sell that needs a bat., I buy a new one and replace the oldest battery in the fleet. That way my tractors have fresh batteries and the one I'm selling has a decent one.

1 pointAs long as there isn't any green showing. The throttle and ckoke cable hookup points may have to be relocated. Nothing major though. Not a bad idea to kill a Deere to save a Horse.

1 pointI see tractors for sale all the time. "Needs a battery" and they want top dollar. If you call they want you to bring one and hook it up yourself. Unless it's a great tractor I say you can keep it!

1 pointThanks for the replies everyone. I ordered another S/G that turns CW. Now, I have to return the wrong one I got from Pete's Small Engine. It's a shame that their product cross reference is wrong. Caveat Emptor.

1 pointThe thing about the coffee can is that it will hold a 12oz Silver Bullet just as well as an aluminum pint, or if I'm real thirsty: a nice 40....

1 pointboth kohler motors turn the same way Steve (cub/wheelhorse) one uses the pto side for starting and the other uses the flywheel side that why there's cw/ccw and the need for different SG's for both brands Brian

1 pointPicked up a GoPro this past week and tried it out at the pull on Sunday. Had it mounted on my helmet but going to try other locations on the tractor at the next pull. Here is the video I uploaded to YouTube. It really cut down on the quality on the upload, the video is awesome straight off the memory card. http://youtu.be/UMA0XjE2kc0 Let me know if the link doesn't work

1 pointother options would be like i do, a family friend of ours regularly ships seacontainers full with tractors and stuff from the states to here(netherlands), almost all the small parts we order in the states get send to the guy that loads the container and all the small parts are just "thrown" in there. koen

1 pointSteve, you have to put different field coils in it to make it turn the other direction. Any starter repair shop could do that for you.

1 pointI dont know what I do is called I call em a Refresh and Rebuild mostly because how can I do a restoration when I cant even get the exact paint Wheel Horse used which incidentally in the early years of the Round Hoods came from Niles Chemical Paint here in my Hometown (still in buisness here today) I have an old 78 year old friend of mine who is retired and worked in the coatings lab and was involved in mixing the paint. I was a stern believer of using Automotive Type paint Like Dupont or PPG but the past two tractors I spruced up 417A and the 520 Snow Chucker were done with 100% Valspar. Like Kevin, I have done some modifications along the way that I feel Improved the tractor. The way I feel about it with the condition I get most of my Tractors in. Anything I do to them is an Improvement. The main thing is like has been said already is, Just Have Fun and Enjoy Yourself. Cheers ~Duke
