For all of us to young to have been born, on this day Col Paul Tibbits flew B-29 Enola Gay to Japan, his bombardier released the bomb on Hiroshima. That didn't end the war with Japan but it probably saved men's lives by shortening the war. Some of those saved may have become "our" fathers. Sore subject I know as for some Col P is a monster, others a pioneer. What would have happened if Japan go the bomb first?

Just wanted to share a recent experience with all of you. I was recently planning a trip to the Finger lakes on the bike for a couple days of relaxation and adult beverages. The morning I was supposed to leave on a 5 hour journey to New York, I took a look at the weather and found out that I would be spending my relaxing time looking out a hotel window watching it rain for days. I was taking this journey with my girlfriend and another couple. We were meeting for breakfast and then hitting the road. At breakfast I presented my months worth of planning our route from Cleveland Ohio to the Finger lakes as well as the best route around the lakes with many adult beverage stops along the way. My riding partners were very impressed with all my planning and were looking forward to all the fun and adventure that awaited us........Then i told them the bad news........We were going to Ride to New York to sit in a Hotel and watch it rain!!!!!!! Out comes the map!!!!!! While sitting finishing breakfast with much discussion about "should we chance it?" Where is it not raining?" Just head in one direction and stop when we get tired" My friend Eric said " I heard of a place southwest of here that someone told me about. I have never been there and don't know much about it. I think its over here somewhere (pointing at map). Then I say "Hey!!!! I know someone who lives there".....So I start to explain to my friends how I know this person and I have never really met him but talked to him many times on the Internet......Well that brought up a whole bunch of debate on strangers on the internet and such. I assured my friends that Mike is not going to cut us up and bury us in his backyard under his Tomato plants and to trust me!!!! So out comes the cell phone and a quick second later a friendly voice on the other end "Hey Joe whats up.....Long time no talk" Then I say " Hey Mike I am thinking bout heading your way" a lot more conversation and we had a plan. Not only did Mike offer to open up his home to me AND my guests as well. But he also offered to show us around his beautiful town. I politely declined the offer to stay at his place to which Mike found us an awesome Hotel right on the water. Mike was such a great host and did such a great job being a tour guide, we are planning another trip to Grand Lake in the early fall (complete with pontoon boat this time). I am so happy I stumbled on this great group of folks and just want to formally thank Mike for the awesome time we had as well as the horrible hangover we had the next day.....LOL And as a bonus Scott (whfan74) was there the next day and I got to meet him too!!!!!!! And on a side note this was one of the best trips I have been on and not a minute of planning went into it......

I have been working on this for a few weeks now and have finally finished it. It was pretty much a basket case when I got it but I had enough parts to get it back together. It has a K-321 14hp. in it but it runs good and doesn't smoke. It has some new parts and stuff I had in the shop. Enjoy the pictures. There are more on my web site.

Bought and installed a 4" lift for the Waggy and finally got it around to installing it this weekend. I think it looks MUCH better. New BFG's to come in a week or two. Next up for the Wags....a Rhino grille (if I can find one) If anyone knows of where one is at I would be VERY appreciative!!! Here are a couple before and after pics (the last pic is of a Rhino grille)

I was fortunate enough to be part of the crew working with the Smithsonian in restoring the Enola Gay. That was the greatest honor I have had in working in the aviation industry. I got to meet Paul Tibbets, Dutch Van Kirk (navigator), and Morris Jeppeson (weapon test officer), at a presentation of the completed project.

It's quite simple, actually....... The stock Uni-Drive tranz will hold up until it breaks. It is impossible to tell when that will be since none of us know the internal condition of the tranz, what kind of operator you are, or the conditions under which you will be pulling. One slip of the tire followed by a good bite and even the toughest 8 speed can let go under the right (wrong?) conditions. It's a 4 pinion 3 speed with 1" axles, so don't expect miracles - but don't let it discourage you either! Go hook it up and pull. If it breaks, make it stronger and try again.

Im sorry man that is a lot Just keep an eye on ebay I scored probably the only 79360 snowblower attachment in the country still in the original box. and the best part it was only 385.00 buy it now and even better it was only 3hrs from me Do you know the chances of that happening for all the things that end up on ebay? To be close to me the exact model I was looking for and so cheap! I felt guilty paying the guy that much when he paid around 1400 for it in 2000. He bought it 13years ago and never took it out of the original box, it sat in his garage for 13years till this past winter. So keep your eye out on craigs list and ebay there are always popping up

Get a used enclosed if you can find one in your price range. You can use it for more stuff. I have a 6'x12' which is a pretty common and handy size. Get a ramp door. In PA if you keep them under 3,000 lb. RGW you don't have to get them inspected and you can get a five year plate.

Thanks for reminding us of this historic date, many lives were saved by this one act and though it is true that civilains died I feel that more Japanese may have been killed had the war gone on longer.

His bombardier was Thomas Ferebee and he was from my home town, Mocksville, NC. These guys were true heroes and should never be forgotten. Japan got everything they had coming to them regardless of how many civilians died during the bombing. Hiroshima was chosen because it population was predominantly a military city by this time and it had not been bombed much during the war so the true destructiveness of the bomb could be gauged. Admiral Yamamoto knew when he bombed Pearl that we would go to all extremes to win the war. After Pearl he said "I fear we have woke a sleeping giant".

I recently stumbled upon all the manuals for my c145 in some stuff that the PO gave me with the tractor. I am wondering if there is any intrest in me posting these on RS. I will take the time to scan them completly but might need some help from the Admins or Mods on how to post them here.......I looked in the files section and didn't see these particular manuals and was wondering if there was any intrest in them. Let me know, Joe (rat) dealer pre delivery0001.pdf Kohler0001.pdf operating and maintenance0001.pdf tractor manual0001.pdf

Names like Pearl Harbor, The Indianapolis, Okinawa, Leyte Gulf, Midway, Bataan Death March, Philippine Sea, and many many more come to mind-God put the Bomb in the hands of the country he knew would use it to end the war.IMO. The Japanese war machine got everything it had coming to it. Yes there were civilians that died too-but there were some on the American side as well. Indeed some of the survivors began our fathers, uncles, etc.-Al

I saw these pictures on another forum and thought it was pretty cool. I'm not too crazy about the steering setup, but the wide front is neat.

Try a heavy c clamp or ratchet clamp, if I'm following what yer sayin', it's the slot the axel goes up in or saddle that sits on axel. Best to place axel back in place and start the pull if clamp will fit that way. Keep in mind that the unbent (front)portion may try to move also.

update on this little machine. I tried to get the original engine running using the parts from the extra engine i picked up. had spark but it wouldn't fire. swapped out the condenser, reset the flywheel and she fired to life with the original engine which is pretty awesome! I picked up a tractor style seat pan and threw that on a while back. found a chain in some spare parts, tied a few lengths together to make that complete. Got the original pulley mounted back on it and after a little trial and error I found the right belt size. fixed up all the linkages, added a few springs and hoped on for the first test drive. It moved! always love that feeling of the first time something moves especially after nearly everything was seized up on this little beast. below are some pictures of it as is. Its not pretty but it runs and drives. Also have a video which is pretty hilarious as I am 6'3 and driving this thing around the back yard. I actually think i may loan it to a friend at work with some younger boys for them to play around with as it would likely just get tucked in the back of the barn now or under a tarp outside. Fun little machine but its time to get working on my RJ-35....

You know what KC...Joe was just saying he had a nice time meeting a good member on RS...and basically you came in a ran his thread in the ground and out the window...not cool mate. Just saying.

Joe...you could not have picked a nicer place to go. Any time you get to meet the people that you talk to on RS is a +...you knew that. KC...just because you are parked at a bar...does not mean you are drinking. They usually have the best burgers, tunes, company...ohh...and guess what...iced tea and sodas...why would you stop at a fast food joint??? The atmosphere is right for riding and stopping at these places. Guilty of some kind of profiling???..just saying. Stop in the next time you see a bunch of bikers at a "bar"...they are probably teachers, lawyers, doctors and even laymen that are helping to bring up your kids. My 2 cents.

Here is the pics I took...really just the people... Henny, Bob, Lonny, my wife Chris (first time at Charlotte), sousa...knowing it might be the last show there,,,we really did need to cut up a table. Lonny's son Eric joins in the fun... I had to get in the picture... No horses of picnic tables were hurt in these pictures... Ken (Chevelltown) stopped by for a chat...thanks Duke (corrected) Scott.(smoreau)..one of the best members you ever want to meet... Duke with his Grand daughter Henny... she is growing up real quick... Shorts (Paul) and his wife Sharon...hearts larger then life, these two... Erik Red horse and my wife Chris... My friends from Paw Paw that I have not seen is some years came down to the show...(Don & Nellie) and the Wheel Horse Community there took them in and made them feel really welcome...shot the breeze all afternoon...it was great seeing them again. Did I mention that Don was an instructor at Michigan State and we were sitting in Duke's tent.?? Duke had his usual Michigan garb on...kinda went with Sousa's Ohio State tent...good conversation for sure... Duke being camera shy...not like him... TJ shows up....how cool is that..?? The Scott (smoreau) and I took a walk around the site and he had exactly what I was looking for...a hitch that I could mount on my B-100 for towing my boat around...Thank You Scott...always great seeing you.....I'm liking this hitch. Stopped at Jake's on the way back...gave me 60 lbs of blueberrys which will make 30 gals of home made wine...put it together today...be about a year to drink...thanks to Jake and Doug Kuhn.. The white stuff on the top is yeast...stirs in after tomorrow and starts the fermentation....I think it will be TOP SHELF.. Had a great time at the show...may have been the last year (that is the bad side)...Kelly and his family did an excellent job again...and it was nice seeing Perry, Bob Rock and a few others. Thanks to all that had a hand in the show.

I wish I'd seen some of these homemade remedies before I bought this.my favorites are the old spring mattress, tire w/ lots of bolts through and the I beam. http://drivewaygroomer.com/comments.html It works well really well. The only complaint I have is that I could've bought a lot of beer and fishing gear with that money. I'm also a big fan of my 50" WH grader.

While under there you may also want to check to make sure the two blots that hold the axle pivit pin secured to the frame are tight. Mine were real loose and the only way to get to the nuts was to stick my arm up where the mower deck is and reach forward. Unless you have a trailer queen expect to get greasy all the way up to the elbow!

In general, proper torque spec is a function of the bolt size and thread pitch, the MATERIAL of the bolt AND the material it is threaded into. There is a 'standard' that has been set by the SAE and is available all over the internet. Search for something like " torque spec chart ". Here's one: http://www.portlandbolt.com/technicalinformation/bolt-torque-chart.html Too much torque on a fastener and it becomes stressed (elongated) and can of course break. It will also damage the threads. Too little torque and the fastener can loosen. There is a lot more to the 'science' of torque specs... for example, a wheel lug is designed with a tapered seat, and the wheel itself has a 'raised' portion around it. This raised portion is in fact a 'spring' of sorts. If you over-torque this type of fastener, you are defeating the purpose of the design by 'flattening' the spring and not allowing it to do the job it was designed for. An experienced mechanic soon gets a 'feel' for how tight fasteners need to be and probably doesn't need to use a torque wrench for every single bolt they tighten. That said... I'm kinda with Wheel-N-it and say to just tighten them snug... and EVENLY, the same snugness on each one... it's not 'rocket surgery'... but understand that a 1/2" drive wrench would make it very possible to easily exceed the torque spec of the lugs. Unlike Wheel-N-It, I can't help but overthink stuff... just my nature and my engineering background. I use around 25-30 lb-ft on my machine. In 30 years I've never had one loosen up. 25-30 lb-ft is not that much. You can easily exceed this with even a 3/8" ratchet. Get out your torque wrench and tighten a few to 30... then with your 3/8" drive ratchet, try and tighten and loosen a few without the torque wrench and get a feel for how tight (or loose) that actually is. I think you will be surprised that it isn't NEARLY as tight as you think it should be. Tighten them to 30 lb-ft with a torque wrench and go out and mow the grass. When you come back, check them again... just to give yourself a sense of security that they haven't loosened up.
