A few months ago I rescued my buddy's WH for $200 that had been sitting in a barn for a few years. It has a newer HM80 that seems to run great. So this winter I'm doing a restore; so far I derusted the front wheels and added some try-ribs. Last week I sprayed the black engine pieces with some Valspar IH red.

Duke, have you ever thought of using an oil cooler with a fan to heat the inside of the cab? I've seen coolant setups in deeres that heat the cab that way, but never an oil cooler one. Since you already have the remote oil filter anyways. Northerntool sells a coolant type. Wonder if you could getaway with running oil through it. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_21785_21785

Hello everyone - really glad this group exists. It's hard to get other people to understand how well built the Wheelhorses are isn't it?. My dad bought this machine new in 1974, and I was 8. I mowed about 1/2 acre with this every week, plus in between his large stand of spruce seedlings for several years. He upgraded to a two cylinder and I don't remember the model number. It was a Wheelhorse though. That was in the mid 90's, which is when this one went into storage. I pulled it out of storage in about 2004, and pressed it into snowblowing. It has been real rough for me to see the surface rust go deeper each year, and I finally pulled the trigger for a full pro restoration, as it seemed the piston rod had failed. You may have read some of my other posts, but the jist is a full engine rebuild ~$500, and full paint at a car shop ~$1100. They matched the New Toro Red I supplied in spray can. They did some great sheet metal work on the hood and fender. I have the 'before' pix if anyone's interested. The white: I had them use the Oldsmobile White someone pointed out earlier. I had the exact year but I can't remember it now. Anyway ... I'll post the photos here. I am sure I'll be asking a lot of questions too.

This Suburban started out in life as a 1960 550. I'm not really a Techy/Lauson guy myself so she became a 400. Since the Big Show my son hasn't stopped telling me he wants a rat rod / hot rod Wheel Horse. Since seeing Vins SUPER RAT GASSER at the Zagray Farm show Cole kicked it up a few notches with asking for a Rat. Well, this isn't a rat rod (Resto mod maybe?) but let me tell you, he is now one happy 10 yr. old! The rear tires and rims are 23x10.50's off a 520. I had a spare set of front rims with no tires. While cruisin the local TSC today I saw these narrow tires that match the rears perfect! I have never seen a narrow set like this while at TSC so I had to make them mine. I used chrome paint for the rims and it don't look half bad. I'm going to bust out the welder and do a custom dual exhaust straight out the back for it. I'm also going to look for a few sets of spindles because I think it will look cooler with another 1.5 inches added. Foot throttle is a maybe as well as possibly adding a vintage 1960's red metal flake Superior 500 chrome steering wheel. I'm not cutting or hacking anything on this, I can easily switch it back to a regular old Suburban if I want to but if Cole has any say that ain't gonna happen. Nothing over the top here, just clean and cool. I'll add more pics as it evolves.

So after riding behind many a town tractor-mounted (rear PTO) leaf blower I got thinking that maybe such a setup would be helpful for those monster piles of leaves in the Fall. The backpack blower is king for control -- getting into the corners and small spaces -- but lacks in the grunt to move tall piles of leaves quickly. On the flipside, the walk-behind blowers are powerful but are a bear to handle on sloped hills. Here is what I came up with: It works great! Now I just need a cup holder. Thanks again to Scott for the heavy hitch! (love it!)

Well I finally managed to coordinate the the exchange of tractor and $$ with Charlie (charliesd250) last weekend We made a big circle around southeast PA Saturday morning, stopping at Charlie's and then heading to Steam-O-Rama in Windsor, PA So in Charlie's honor, here are a few pictures of the finished product (for now ) Fortunately Charlie put a wheelie bar on it so I don't break my neck Simple, but functional Great job Charlie, thanks The freakin thing is awesome . . sounds just like a Harley! By the way, great to see Mr. & Mrs. Buckrancher, rmaynard, Redbird and Steve and bigrking!

Can anyone tell me where to find the vertical muffler stacks with the steel rain caps for garden tractors? I need to replace the muffler and kind of like that look. Thanks, Dave

I built one to fit a WH tractor out of a walk behind broom. I bet a broom would work real nice and quick for what you need to do

I mow over 10 acres a week and I always end up bumping something and messing the deck up somehow. It's usually the same problem you had. I just take the deck off and jump up and down on it a few times and go back to mowing.

I am very intrigued by your use of ceiling space in your garage. That is what I would call creative use of space. The Snow Chucker is awesome. Quite an inpiration for many of us in snow country.

I knocked my c125 spindle out of whack when I hit a low stump without the blades even spinning. I think with a bit of care, you could coax it back into position with the right kind of pry or pressure. Try to do it with the blades on the spindle so you can double check for parallel as you go along. May not take as much as you think. But like the others, I think your spindle isn't perpendicular to your deck.
  32. 1 point
it sounds like sparky said the area where the spindle bolts on could be bent, you may have to shim the spindle with washers between the housing and the deck

Gonna be a good one ! My 857 is my do anything tractor. Uses very little fuel and will work me to death on a tank. very reliable, if t's not working I'm not working. I mow 4 or 5 yards around here just for seat time. JIM in Texas

Are all three blades the same size/length? If so swap out the center blade for one of the outside blades to be sure its not a bent blade. I suspect your deck shell is the problem tho. Have you whacked anything with it? Does anyone else use it to mow when your not there....teenager maybe? Mike.....

Lookin' really good. Now all you need is handful of servos and maybe a seven channel radio... then you could operate that ol' chucker from your Lazy Boy Duke.

Off brand stack. Power King 2414. Came with a pepper pot that blew exhaust all over my loader hoses. Extended the pipe with some scrap chrome moly, used a Gravely rear engine muffler from Napa, raincap from TSC and a stainless Handicap bathroom bar from a dumpster at work.

The only Gm's I can think of are front wheel drive, W body, like monty carlo, grand prix, lumina, some of the mini vans, and I think the H body, deta 88's, bonivilles, some caddys, and more I'm sure but as I said they a front drivers, so they have alot of offset, but the spare tires have less, but are narrower.
