While our Australian friend has been doing his best to fill up his shed with little red tractors, I have been hoping to get rid of a few of mine. I'd really like to get into single digits, and ideally would like to only own about 6. I doubt its ever gonna happen. So somehow I managed to drag another one home yesterday: Reasonably tidy, I think it'll look OK after a good bath. I jumped it this morning and the M10 did struggle into life briefly. By the amount of "debri" that came out from beneath the engine tins, the mice had been quite happy living in there. After removing the blower housing, the vermin had been feasting on the spark plug wire. We'll see how she runs with a new wire. It came with a reasonable 42" deck, it needs a couple of small patches welded in, but I think it'll be a reasonable unit when its done. Hopefully this one wont stay here too long, get it running good, a clean up abd drive it out to the roadside with a "For Sale" sign on it.

Lane Ralph's Wheel Horse tractors in Greencastle were out of the barn today. The 1958 Wheel Horse RJ, the 1967 Lawn Ranger L-157 and the 1975 B-80 were all enjoying the outside. We had about a 30 minute rain yesterday with puddles forming on the hard soil but it was our first rain of any consequence in two months! Video of the tractors running and charging up!

My .02c.... $1300 is a lot of money, but without knowing what was replaced, what parts went in and what machining was done I dont think you can say "he was robbed". Genuine Kohler parts are expensive. But the quality is there, and there are a ton of 40 year old engines still running on their original parts out there. The cheapy import parts are attractive because of their cost, but I'm betting they wont last 40 or 50 years. Your $80 rebuild kit contains piston, rod, rings and gaskets. Its very possible that the engine needed a lot more stuff than just that -valves, guides, lifters. governor gears, crankshaft bearings? Machining costs add up too. Boring, crankgrind, cam grind, valve seats etc. And maybe the crank was too worn to clean up at .010" under? Even a weld up and remachine is reasonably expensive. Same goes for the cam, and maybe the block needed sleeving? I couldnt spend $1300 on a rebuild, but I do believe it is quite possible to do it if you are paying someone to do it. By the way, you can get a new K-181 for just under $1300: http://www.smallenginewarehouse.com/product.asp?PN=K181-30538&desc=Kohler Sounds like this guy was wanting to keep everything original, so he chose to rebuild his original engine.

So in my front yard where the bird feeder used to be (till this morning) I have found rodent holes. They are to big for chipmunks and the squrrills live in trees. Got on google and it seems we have a brown rat living here....not good! So I started flooding the holes and sure enough out it came, all wet and unhappy! It darted under my front steps which are pre-cast and hollow. I hadn't seen the hole at the front of the stairs till now. After looking around I found the "backdoor" it was using as a second entrance/exit. I closed that off and went to get my C-165 and a length of pipe. Let it run for about 30 minutes occasionally letting it run at half choke for maximum exhaust stink, hopefully the little tresspasser was hiding under the stairs....if you know what I mean. I think 30 minutes of tractor exhuast fumes should be enough to do it in? Anyone have a similar experience. Mike...........

Reckon if it was still under the steps, the old 'Rattus norvegicus' has dropped off into a permanant sleep. Like the ingenuity of gassing the little pesky rodent. Exhausting work without a Beer.

Friend of mine did that with his truck and piped it into a wood chuck hole, let it run while he drank a 12 pack no more chuck.

I've drunk more than my fair share over the years, but even with my thickest beer goggles on I cant make those things look cute!

If a horse can't earn its keep, it has to go in my book! I use all my tractors for some kind of use but the 875. It earned its keep years ago and its retired to joy riding. :)
